Abstract

A method and system for hybrid automatic repeat request operation for uplink coordinated multi-point signaling, the method in one embodiment sending a data packet from a user equipment to a plurality of network elements; waiting for a control indication from at least one of the plurality of network element; and retransmitting the data packet to the plurality of network elements if the control indication specifies retransmission is required.

Claims (59)

1. A method for hybrid automatic repeat request operation for uplink coordinated multi-point signaling comprising:

sending a data packet to a plurality of network elements;

receiving a hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements; and

if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements is a negative acknowledgment, retransmitting the data packet to only one network element.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, after the retransmission, receiving a hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising retransmitting a further data packet to the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

4. The method of claim 2 , further comprising retransmitting a further data packet to a different network element than the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

5. The method of claim 2 , further comprising sending a termination indicator if a positive acknowledgement is received.

6. A user equipment comprising:

a communications subsystem; and

a processor;

wherein the communications subsystem and the processor cooperate to:

send a data packet to a plurality of network elements;

receive a hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements; and

if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements is a negative acknowledgment, retransmit the data packet to only one network element.

7. The user equipment of claim 6 , wherein the communications subsystem and the processor further cooperate to, after the retransmission, receive a hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element.

8. The user equipment of claim 7 , wherein the communications subsystem and the processor further cooperate to retransmit a further data packet to the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

9. The user equipment of claim 7 , wherein the communications subsystem and the processor further cooperate to retransmit a further data packet to a different network element than the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

10. The user equipment of claim 7 , wherein the communications subsystem and the processor further cooperate to send a termination indicator if a positive acknowledgement is received.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon executable code for execution by a processor of a user equipment, the executable code comprising instructions for:

sending a data packet to a plurality of network elements;

receiving a hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements; and

if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements is a negative acknowledgment, retransmitting the data packet to only one network element.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the executable code further comprises instruction for:

after the retransmission, receiving a hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the executable code further comprises instruction for:

retransmitting a further data packet to the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the executable code further comprises instruction for:

retransmitting a further data packet to a different network element than the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the executable code further comprises instruction for:

sending a termination indicator if a positive acknowledgement is received.

16. A method comprising:

receiving, by a user equipment, a hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of a plurality of network elements; and

if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements is a negative acknowledgment:

retransmitting, by the user equipment, a data packet to only one network element; and

receiving, by the user equipment, a hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising retransmitting, by the user equipment, a further data packet to a different network element than the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

18. The method of claim 16 , further comprising transmitting the data packet to each of the plurality of network elements.

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the acknowledgment or negative acknowledgement is received over a physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel.

20. A user equipment, comprising:

a communications subsystem; and

a processor;

wherein the communications subsystem and the processor cooperate to:

receive a hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of a plurality of network elements; and

if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements is a negative acknowledgment:

retransmit a data packet to only one network element; and

receive a hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element.

21. The user equipment of claim 20 , wherein the communications subsystem and the processor further cooperate to retransmit a further data packet to a different network element than the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

22. The user equipment of claim 20 , wherein the communications subsystem and the processor further cooperate to transmit a data packet to each of the plurality of network elements.

23. The user equipment of claim 20 , wherein the acknowledgment or negative acknowledgement is received over a physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel.

24. A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon executable code for execution by a processor of a user equipment, the executable code comprising instructions for:

receiving a hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of a plurality of network elements; and

if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from each of the plurality of network elements is a negative acknowledgment:

retransmitting a data packet to only one network element; and

receiving, by the user equipment, a hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element.

25. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the executable code further comprises instructions for:

retransmitting a further data packet to a different network element than the only one network element if the hybrid automatic repeat request response from the only one network element is a negative acknowledgement.

26. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the executable code further comprises instructions for transmitting the data packet to each of the plurality of network elements.

27. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the acknowledgment or negative acknowledgement is received over a physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel.
