Abstract

An imaging device comprises a lens barrel including an optical system that collects light from a predetermined viewing area and that defines an optical axis; an imaging unit that receives the light collected by the optical system and generates image data, the image data defining a main image that includes a determined sub area; a ring-shaped operation ring that is provided on an outer circumference of the lens barrel and that is manually rotatable about the optical axis of the optical system; and an area change unit that changes at least one of (A) a size of the determined sub area, or (B) a position of the determined sub area, responsive to a manual operation of the operation ring.

Claims (37)

1. An imaging device comprising:

a lens barrel including an optical system;

an imaging unit that receives a light collected by the optical system and generates image data;

an operation ring that is provided on an outer circumference of the lens barrel and that rotates about an optical axis of the optical system; and

a controller that performs control in accordance with an electrical signal indicative of a position of the operation ring in a direction of the optical axis, that switches image capturing modes of the imaging device in accordance with rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at a first position, and that changes an image capturing parameter of the imaging device in accordance with rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at a second position.

2. The imaging device according to claim 1 , wherein the operation ring is configured to move along the direction of the optical axis.

3. The imaging device according to claim 1 , wherein the controller switches operation guide displays that indicate a relationship between an operation of the operation ring and a corresponding effect of the operation, wherein the switching of the operation guide displays is done in accordance with the position of the operation ring in the direction of the optical axis.

4. The imaging device according to claim 1 , wherein a repeated clicking sensation is provided to the rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at the first position, and the repeated clicking sensation is not provided to the rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at the second position.

5. An imaging device comprising:

a lens barrel including an optical system;

an imaging unit that receives a light collected by the optical system and generates image data;

an operation ring that is provided on an outer circumference of the lens barrel and that rotates about an optical axis of the optical system;

a switch that switches between providing a repeated clicking sensation to rotation of the operation ring or not; and

a controller that changes a function other than zooming or changes a parameter in accordance with the rotation of the operation ring when the repeated clicking sensation is provided to the rotation of the operation ring.

6. An imaging device comprising:

a lens barrel including an optical system;

an imaging unit that receives a light collected by the optical system and generates image data;

an operation ring that is provided on an outer circumference of the lens barrel and that rotates about an optical axis of the optical system; and

a controller that (1) controls the imaging unit to image a main image and a sub image cut out from the main image simultaneously, wherein at least one of a size or position of the sub image is adjusted in accordance with an operation of the operation ring, (2) performs control in accordance with an electrical signal indicative of a position of the operation ring in a direction of the optical axis, (3) switches image capturing modes of the imaging device in accordance with rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at a first position, and (4) changes an image capturing parameter of the imaging device in accordance with rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at a second position.

7. The imaging device according to claim 6 , wherein

the operation ring is configured to move along the direction of the optical axis, and

the controller controls the imaging unit to image the main image and the sub image simultaneously in accordance with movement of the operation ring along the direction of the optical axis.

8. A method of operating an imaging device including a lens barrel including an optical system, and an imaging unit that receives a light collected by the optical system and generates image data, the method comprising:

detecting a position, in a direction of an optical axis of the optical system, of an operation ring that is provided on an outer circumference of the lens barrel and that rotates about the optical axis of the optical system;

controlling the imaging device in accordance an electrical signal indicative of the detected position of the operation ring in the direction of the optical axis; and

switching image capturing modes of the imaging device in accordance with rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at a first position, and changing an image capturing parameter of the imaging device in accordance with rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at a second position.

9. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the controlling switches operation guide displays that indicate a relationship between an operation of the operation ring and a corresponding effect of the operation, wherein the switching of the operation ring is done in accordance with the detected position of the operation ring in the direction of the optical axis.

10. The method according to claim 8 , wherein a repeated clicking sensation is provided to the rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at the first position, and the repeated clicking sensation is not provided to the rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at the second position.

11. A method of operating an imaging device including a lens barrel including an optical system, and an imaging unit that receives a light collected by the optical system and generates image data, the method comprising:

switching between providing or not a repeated clicking sensation to rotation of an operation ring that is provided on an outer circumference of the lens barrel and that rotates about the optical axis of the optical system; and

changing a function other than zooming or changing a parameter in accordance with the rotation of the operation ring when the repeated clicking sensation is provided to the rotation of the operation ring.

12. A method of operating an imaging device including a lens barrel including an optical system, and an imaging unit that receives a light collected by the optical system and generates image data, the method comprising:

detecting a position, in a direction of an optical axis of the optical system, of an operation ring that is provided on an outer circumference of the lens barrel and that rotates about the optical axis of the optical system;

controlling the imaging unit to image a main image and a sub image cut out from the main image simultaneously, wherein at least one of a size or position of the sub image is adjusted in accordance with an operation of the operation ring; and

switching image capturing modes of the imaging device in accordance with rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at a first position, and changing an image capturing parameter of the imaging device in accordance with rotation of the operation ring when the operation ring is at a second position.
