Iron set groove progression

1. A set of iron type golf club heads, comprising:

a plurality of iron type golf club heads, said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprising a long iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 15 degrees and less than 26 degrees, a mid iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 26 degrees and less than 37 degrees, and a short iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 37 degrees and less than 47 degrees;

wherein each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a striking face, and wherein each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a plurality of grooves formed in said striking face extending generally from a heel side of said striking face towards a toe side of said striking face;

wherein said plurality of grooves of each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise an edge radius, wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is greater than said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said short iron;

wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves is the radius of the edge at the intersection of a wall of each groove of said plurality of grooves and an outer surface of the striking face;

wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said short iron is less than 0.005″;

wherein said plurality of grooves of each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a draft angle, wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is less than said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said short iron;

and wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves is the angle measured between each wall of each groove of said plurality of grooves and a plane perpendicular to said outer surface of the striking face.

2. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 1 , wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said mid iron is greater than said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said long iron.

3. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 1 , wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said short iron is between 35 and 50 degrees.

4. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 1 , wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is between 0 and 15 degrees.

5. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 1 , wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said mid iron is greater than said edge radius of said short iron.

6. A set of iron type golf club heads, comprising:

a plurality of iron type golf club heads, said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprising a long iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 15 degrees and less than 26 degrees, a mid iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 26 degrees and less than 37 degrees, and a short iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 37 degrees and less than 47 degrees;

wherein each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a striking face, and wherein each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a plurality of grooves formed in said striking face extending generally from a heel side of said striking face towards a toe side of said striking face;

wherein said plurality of grooves of each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise an edge radius, wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is greater than said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said short iron;

wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves is the radius of the edge at the intersection of a wall of each groove of said plurality of grooves and an outer surface of the striking face;

wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said short iron is less than 0.005″;

and wherein said plurality of grooves of each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a groove width, wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is less than said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said short iron.

7. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 6 , wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said mid iron is greater than said edge radius of said short iron.

8. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 6 , wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is greater than or equal to 0.007″ and less than or equal to 0.020″.

9. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 6 , wherein said edge radius of said plurality of grooves of said mid iron is greater than or equal to 0.005″ and less than or equal to 0.007″.

10. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 6 , wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said mid iron is greater than said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said long iron.

11. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 6 , wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is between 0.01″ and 0.03″.

12. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 6 , wherein said wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said short iron is between 0.03″ and 0.037″.

13. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 6 , wherein said wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said mid iron is between 0.03″ and 0.037″.

14. A set of iron type golf club heads, comprising:

a plurality of iron type golf club heads, said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprising a long iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 15 degrees and less than 26 degrees, a mid iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 26 degrees and less than 37 degrees, and a short iron having a loft angle greater than or equal to 37 degrees and less than 47 degrees;

wherein each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a striking face, and wherein each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a plurality of grooves formed in said striking face extending generally from a heel side of said striking face towards a toe side of said striking face;

wherein said plurality of grooves of each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a draft angle, wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is less than said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said short iron;

and wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves is the angle measured between each wall of each groove of said plurality of grooves and a plane perpendicular to said outer surface of the striking face;

and wherein said plurality of grooves of each of said plurality of iron type golf club heads comprise a groove width, wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is less than said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said short iron.

15. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 14 , wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said mid iron is greater than said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said long iron.

16. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 14 , wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said short iron is between 35 and 50 degrees.

17. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 14 , wherein said draft angle of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is between 0 and 15 degrees.

18. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 14 , wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said mid iron is greater than said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said long iron.

19. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 14 , wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said long iron is between 0.01″ and 0.03″.

20. The set of iron type golf club heads of claim 14 , wherein said wherein said groove width of said plurality of grooves of said short iron is between 0.03″ and 0.037″.
