Interchangeable shaft system
View Patent ↗A golf club incorporating an interchangeable shaft system includes a shaft, a shaft sleeve, a club head. The shaft sleeve is coupled to an end of the shaft and is received in a hosel included in the club head. The shaft sleeve is removably coupled to the club head. Hosel and shaft sleeve alignment features provide discrete orientations between the shaft and club head.
1. A golf club, comprising:
a golf club head;
an elongate shaft; and
an interchangeable shaft system releasably coupling the shaft to the club head, the interchangeable shaft system comprising a wedge member, a shaft sleeve and a hosel ring, wherein the wedge member and the hosel ring are interposed between the shaft sleeve and a hosel of the golf club head, wherein the wedge member includes angled end surfaces, wherein the hosel ring includes angled end surfaces,
wherein the interchangeable shaft system is configured to provide a plurality of coupling positions with each position producing a specific combination of a loft angle orientation and a lie angle orientation and wherein the coupling positions include more than four lie angle values for at least one loft angle value, and
wherein the hosel defines a hosel bore having a longitudinal axis and a proximal end surface of the hosel is angled relative to the longitudinal axis by a hosel angle, and wherein the hosel ring defines a hosel ring angle, and the magnitude of the hosel angle and the hosel ring angle are about the same.
2. The golf club of claim 1 , wherein the hosel ring is constructed to have two selectable orientations relative to the club head.
3. The golf club of claim 1 , wherein the shaft sleeve is constructed to have four selectable orientations relative to the wedge member.
4. The golf club of claim 1 , wherein the wedge member is constructed to have four selectable orientations relative to the hosel ring.
5. The golf club of claim 1 , wherein the interchangeable shaft system further comprises a retainer that retains the wedge member and the hosel ring slidably coupled to the shaft sleeve when the shaft sleeve, the wedge member and the hosel ring are separate from the golf club head.
6. A golf club, comprising:
a golf club head;
an elongate shaft; and
an interchangeable shaft system releasably coupling the shaft to the club head, the interchangeable shaft system comprising a wedge member, a shaft sleeve and a hosel ring, wherein the wedge member and the hosel ring are interposed between the shaft sleeve and a hosel of the golf club head, wherein the wedge member includes angled end surfaces, wherein the hosel ring includes angled end surfaces,
wherein the hosel ring is constructed to have two selectable orientations relative to the hosel, wherein the shaft sleeve is constructed to have four selectable orientations relative to the wedge member, and wherein the wedge member is constructed to have four selectable orientations relative to the hosel ring, and
wherein the hosel defines a hosel bore having a longitudinal axis and a proximal end surface of the hosel is angled relative to the longitudinal axis by a hosel angle, wherein the hosel ring defines a hosel ring angle, wherein in a first selectable orientation the hosel angle and the hosel ring angle cancel.
7. The golf club of claim 6 , wherein the interchangeable shaft system is configured to provide a plurality of coupling positions with each position producing a specific combination of a loft angle orientation and a lie angle orientation and wherein the coupling positions include more than four lie angle values at least one loft angle value.
8. The golf club of claim 6 , wherein the interchangeable shaft system further comprises a retainer that retains the wedge member and the hosel ring slidably coupled to the shaft sleeve when the shaft sleeve, the wedge member and the hosel ring are separate from the golf club head.
9. The golf club of claim 6 , wherein a proximal end surface of the hosel is angled relative to a longitudinal axis of the hosel bore to define a hosel angle of about 2°.
10. The golf club of claim 9 , wherein the angled end surfaces of the hosel ring define a hosel ring angle that is about 2°.
11. The golf club of claim 6 , wherein a proximal end surface of the hosel is angled relative to a longitudinal axis of the hosel bore to define a hosel angle, wherein the angled end surfaces of the hosel ring define a hosel ring angle, and wherein the hosel angle and the hosel ring angle are selected so that in an additive configuration the lie angle of the golf club is increased by ½°.
12. A golf club, comprising:
a golf club head;
an elongate shaft; and
an interchangeable shaft system releasably coupling the shaft to the club head, the interchangeable shaft system comprising a wedge member, a shaft sleeve and a hosel ring, wherein the wedge member and the hosel ring are interposed between the shaft sleeve and a hosel of the golf club head, wherein the wedge member includes angled end surfaces, wherein the hosel ring includes angled end surfaces,
wherein the hosel ring is constructed to have two selectable orientations relative to the hosel, wherein the shaft sleeve is constructed to have four selectable orientations relative to the wedge member, and wherein the wedge member is constructed to have four selectable orientations relative to the hosel ring, and
wherein a proximal end surface of the hosel is angled relative to a longitudinal axis of the hosel bore to define a hosel angle of about ½°.
13. The golf club of claim 12 , wherein the angled end surfaces of the hosel ring define a hosel ring angle that is about ½°.
14. The golf club of claim 12 , wherein the hosel defines a hosel bore having a longitudinal axis and a proximal end surface of the hosel is angled relative to the longitudinal axis by a hosel angle, and wherein the angled end surfaces of the hosel ring define a hosel ring angle, and the magnitude of the hosel angle and the hosel ring angle are different.
