Abstract

A video display with high image quality is achieved even when a frame cycle varies for each frame. A video display system includes a video source device 11 which outputs a video signal and a display device 12 which displays a video based on a video signal output from the video source device 11 . The video source device 11 includes a drawing time prediction unit 104 and a transmitting unit 102 . The drawing time prediction unit 104 calculates frame interval information indicating an interval from when a video signal of a first frame is output to when a video signal of a second frame to be a next frame of the first frame is output. The transmitting unit 102 transmits the frame interval information calculated by the drawing time prediction unit 104 to the display device 12.

Claims (12)

1. A display device for displaying a video based on a video signal transmitted from a video source device, the display device comprising:

a display which displays a video;

a controller which controls displaying of the video signal on the display based on frame interval information indicating an interval from when a video signal of a first frame output from the video source device is output to when a video signal of a second frame to be a next frame of the first frame is output from the video source device; and

a memory which temporarily stores the video signal,

wherein, when the interval from the first frame to the second frame is two or more times as long as a predetermined shortest display scanning frame interval, the controller causes the display to repeatedly display the video signal of the first frame stored in the memory at two display scanning periods.

2. The display device according to claim 1 , further comprising:

wherein the controller generates a signal for overdrive for improving an optical response of the display and increases a compensation for the optical response when an interval from when the video signal of the first frame is output to when the video signal of the second frame is output is shorter and reduces the compensation for the optical response when the interval is longer based on the frame interval information.

3. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein:

the controller controls the brightness of a video to be displayed to be constant based on the frame interval information.

4. The display device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the display is a liquid crystal panel in which liquid crystal is AC-driven by inverting polarity for each display scanning period, and

wherein the controller drives the liquid crystal panel with negative polarity in a next display scanning frame period when a difference time obtained by subtracting a cumulative total of display scanning frame intervals driven with negative polarity by the display from a cumulative total of display scanning frame intervals displayed and scanned with positive polarity by the display is positive, and drives the liquid crystal panel with positive polarity in the next display scanning frame period when the difference time is negative.
