Abstract

An airfoil includes an airfoil body having a first wall, a second wall, a third wall, a tip shelf, a pocket surface, and a tip surface. The tip shelf circumferentially extends between the first wall and the second wall. The pocket surface circumferentially extends between the second wall and the third wall. The first wall, the second wall, the third wall, and the pocket surface at least partially define a squealer pocket. The tip surface is spaced apart from the pocket surface and circumferentially extends between the second wall and the third wall.

Claims (12)

1. An airfoil for a gas turbine engine, comprising: an airfoil body including: a first wall that radially extends between a root region and a tip region and axially extends between a leading edge and a trailing edge, the first wall at least partially defines a pressure side of the airfoil; a second wall having at least one portion that is spaced apart from the first wall, the second wall radially extends from the tip region towards the root region and axially extends between the leading edge and the trailing edge; a third wall having at least one portion that is spaced apart from the second wall, the third wall radially extends between the root region and the tip region and axially extends between the leading edge and the trailing edge, the third wall at least partially defines a suction side of the airfoil; a tip shelf disposed proximate the tip region and extends between the first wall and the at least one portion of the second wall, the at least one portion of the second wall extending from an edge of the tip shelf, a pocket surface disposed proximate the tip region and extends between the at least one portion of the second wall and the at least one portion of the third wall; the first wall, the at least one portion of the second wall, the at least one portion of the third wall, and the pocket surface at least partially define a squealer pocket; and a tip surface disposed at the tip region and adjacent to the squealer pocket, the tip surface located between the spaced portions of the second wall and the third wall, wherein the airfoil body defines a first pressure side hybrid skin core cavity disposed immediately adjacent to a hot wall of the airfoil and the first pressure side hybrid skin core cavity that has internal heat transfer augmentation features and the first pressure side hybrid skin core cavity extends radially from the root region toward the tip region and through the tip shelf, the first pressure side hybrid skin core cavity being disposed proximate the leading edge and wherein the airfoil body defines a leading edge hybrid skin core cavity disposed immediately adjacent to the hot wall and the leading edge hybrid skin core cavity has internal heat transfer augmentation features and the leading edge hybrid skin core cavity radially extends through the pocket surface, the leading edge hybrid skin core cavity being disposed proximate the leading edge, and is spaced apart from the first pressure side hybrid skin core cavity.

2. The airfoil of claim 1 , wherein the airfoil body further including an extension wall that extends between the second wall and the third wall and radially extends between the root region and the tip region.

3. The airfoil of claim 2 , wherein the extension wall is disposed between the first pressure side hybrid skin core cavity and the leading edge hybrid skin core cavity.

4. The airfoil of claim 3 , wherein the airfoil body defines a second pressure side hybrid skin core cavity that has internal heat transfer augmentation features and is spaced apart from the first pressure side hybrid skin core cavity and radially extends through the tip shelf.

5. The airfoil of claim 4 , wherein the airfoil body defines a suction side hybrid skin core cavity that has internal heat transfer augmentation features and is spaced apart from the leading edge hybrid skin core cavity and radially extends through the pocket surface.

6. The airfoil of claim 5 , wherein the airfoil body defines a forward radial flow cavity and a tip flag cavity that is in fluid communication with the forward radial flow cavity.

7. The airfoil of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the tip shelf and the pocket surface are disposed substantially parallel to but not coplanar with the tip surface.

8. The airfoil of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the tip shelf and the pocket surface are disposed generally parallel to the tip surface.

9. The airfoil of claim 6 , wherein the first pressure side hybrid skin core cavity, the second pressure side hybrid skin core cavity, the leading edge hybrid skin core cavity, and the suction side hybrid skin core cavity are arranged about the forward radial flow cavity.

10. The airfoil of claim 6 , wherein the tip flag cavity extends from the forward radial flow cavity towards the trailing edge.

11. The airfoil of claim 10 , wherein the tip flag cavity is radially located between the tip shelf and a rib that extends between the first wall and the second wall.

12. The airfoil of claim 10 , wherein the rib is disposed in a non-parallel relationship with the tip shelf.
