Abstract

The invention relates to a method for editing a media record in a terminal device of a cellular network, which editing means removing at least one portion of the original contents of the media record. The state of the editing is shown on the display of the terminal device with a pointer arrangement according to the invention. The invention also relates to a cellular network terminal device in which the method is utilized. In the terminal device the media record editing is controlled with a program application according to the invention.

Claims (48)

1. A method for editing a video on a device, comprising:

for a selected video, entering an edit mode;

in the edit mode, displaying a pointer arrangement associated with the length of the selected video when played and a first programmable key associated with a first operation in the edit mode;

then, responsive to receiving one or more inputs at the device, setting at least one of a final starting location and a final ending location along the pointer arrangement at a location different from the beginning and the end of the selected video, respectively;

then associating a second operation, different from the first operation and comprising at least a first option, with the first programmable key; and

responsive to receiving an input via the first programmable key selecting the second operation and an input at the device selecting the first option, saving an edited version of the selected video comprising at least one portion of the selected video that remains outside the portion between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement and excluding a portion of the selected video that is between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the final ending location is a different ending location along the pointer arrangement from the end of the selected video.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second operation comprises displaying a plurality of options that include a second option for saving the portion of the selected video that is between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement while excluding any portions of the selected video that remain outside the final starting location and the final ending location, and the first option for saving the at least one portion of the selected video that remains outside the portion between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement while excluding the portion of the selected video that is between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

after setting at least one of the final starting location and a final ending location, displaying a second programmable key associated with a saving operation;

wherein the saving step comprises:

responsive to receiving the input at the device selecting the first option followed by receiving an input via the second programmable key, processing and saving the edited version of the selected video.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first programmable key comprises an associated physical key of the device near an indicator of the first operation displayed on the device.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first programmable key comprises an area of a touch screen at which an indicator of the first operation is displayed.

7. An apparatus for editing a video on a device, comprising:

a display;

a user interface for receiving user input comprising a first programmable key;

a memory configured to store software for editing the video on the device; and

a control unit communicatively coupled to the display, the user interface, and the memory, the control unit configured to execute the software stored in the memory to:

for a selected video, enter an edit mode;

in the edit mode, display a pointer arrangement associated with the length of the video when played, and a first programmable key associated with a first operation in the edit mode;

receive, from the user interface, one or more inputs setting at least one of a final starting location and a final ending location along the pointer arrangement at a location different from the beginning and the end of the selected video, respectively;

then associate a second operation different from the first operation and comprising at least a first option, with the first programmable key; and

responsive to receiving, from the user interface, an input via the first programmable key selecting the second operation and an input at the user interface selecting the first option, save an edited version of the selected video comprising at least one portion of the selected video that remains outside the portion between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement and excluding a portion of the selected video that is between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the final ending location is a different ending location along the pointer arrangement from the end of the selected video.

9. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the control unit is further configured to:

responsive to an input at the first programmable key when associated with the second operation, display a plurality of options including a second option for saving the portion of the selected video between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement while excluding any portions of the selected video that remain outside the final starting location and the final location and the first option for saving the at least one portion of the selected video that remains outside the portion between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement while excluding the portion of the selected video that is between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the user interface further comprises a second programmable key;

and further comprising:

after setting at least one of the final starting location and a final ending location, displaying the second programmable key associated with a saving operation;

wherein the saving step comprises:

responsive to receiving the input at the device selecting the first option followed by receiving an input via the second programmable key, processing and saving the edited version of the selected video.

11. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the first programmable key comprises an associated physical key of the device near an indicator of the first operation displayed on the device.

12. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the first programmable key comprises an area of a touch screen at which an indicator of the first operation is displayed.

13. A non-transitory computer readable medium, the computer readable medium storing a software application, the software application comprising instructions that, when executed by a control unit on a device, cause the device to perform a plurality of operations comprising:

for a selected video, entering an edit mode for the video;

in the edit mode, displaying a pointer arrangement associated with the length of the video when played and a first programmable key associated with a first operation in the edit mode;

then, responsive to receiving one or more inputs at the device, setting at least one of a final starting location and a final ending location along the pointer arrangement at a location different from the beginning and the end of the selected video, respectively;

then associating a second operation, different from the first operation and comprising at least a first option, with the first programmable key; and

responsive to receiving an input via the first programmable key selecting the second operation and an input at the device selecting the first option, saving an edited version of the selected video comprising at least one portion of the selected video that remains outside the portion between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement and excluding a portion of the selected video that is between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement.

14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the final ending location is a different ending location along the pointer arrangement from the end of the selected video.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the second operation comprises displaying a plurality of options that include a second option for saving the portion of the selected video between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement while excluding any portions of the selected video that remain outside the final starting location and the final ending location and the first option for saving the at least one portion of the selected video that remains outside the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement while excluding the portion of the selected video that is between the final starting location and the final ending location along the pointer arrangement.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising:

after setting at least one of the final starting location and a final ending location, displaying a second programmable key associated with a saving operation;

wherein the saving step comprises:

responsive to receiving the input at the device selecting the first option followed by receiving an input via the second programmable key, processing and saving the edited version of the selected video.
