Abstract

A method for scheduling a meeting using an email client that is part of an email system includes receiving a request at the email client to schedule the meeting. The request may include an indication of the resources that are to be provided by a conferencing system for the meeting. The method also includes communicating the request to a conference bridge that is part of the conferencing system and receiving from the conference bridge an access code associated with the meeting. The method also includes appending the access code to a meeting invitation associated with the meeting and providing the meeting invitation to an email server that is part of the email system. The method also includes sending the meeting invitation to users invited to participate in the meeting.

Claims (68)

1. A method comprising:

providing, by a processor, services and a router to a server that is being added to an IP telephony network having sites and other servers;

updating, by the processor, a configuration map as to a location of the server, the configuration map including a location of each of the sites relative to each other site, and the configuration map organizing the sites according to a tree-like hierarchy; and

updating, by the processor, the other servers as to the location of the server based on the configuration map.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the IP telephony network further has switches at a site of the server;

the site of the server is one of the sites; and

the method further comprises updating, by the processor, the switches at the site of the server as to the location of the server based on the configuration map.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein:

the switches include respective site maps with respective server assignments and respective backup server assignments associated with the switches; and

the updating of the switches further comprises updating, by the processor, the respective site maps as to the location of the server based on the configuration map.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by the processor, that a site of the server is connected to at least one younger generation site in the tree-like hierarchy based on the configuration map, the site of the server being one of the sites, and the at least one younger generation site being another one of the sites and including IP telephony elements; and

updating, by the processor, the IP telephony elements as to the location of the server based on the configuration map.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

updating, by the processor, the configuration map as to removal of a second server from the IP telephony network; and

updating, by the processor, the other servers as to the removal of the second server based on the configuration map.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein:

the IP telephony network further has switches at a site of the second server;

the site of the second server is one of the sites; and

the method further comprises updating, by the processor, the switches at the site of the second server as to the removal of the second server based on the configuration map.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein:

the switches include respective site maps with respective server assignments and respective backup server assignments associated with the switches; and

the updating of the switches further comprises updating, by the processor, the respective site maps as to the removal of the second server based on the configuration map.

8. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

determining, by the processor, that a site of the second server is connected to at least one younger generation site in the tree-like hierarchy based on the configuration map, the site of the second server being one of the sites, and the at least one younger generation site being another one of the sites and including switches; and

updating, by the processor, the switches as to the removal of the second server based on the configuration map.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing, by the processor, an IP telephony element with a site map, the site map having server assignments and backup server assignments associated with a plurality of IP telephony elements, the plurality of IP telephony elements being within a site of the server, and the IP telephony element being added to the site of the server;

assigning, by the processor, the server to provide IP telephony services for the IP telephony element and any other IP telephony elements connected to the IP telephony element;

updating, by the processor, the configuration map as to a location of the IP telephony element; and

updating, by the processor, the server as to the location of the IP telephony element based on the configuration map.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

updating, by the processor, the configuration map as to a removal of an IP telephony element from a site of the server;

updating, by the processor, the configuration map as to a removal of other IP telephony elements connected to the IP telephony element; and

updating, by the processor, the server as to the removal of the IP telephony element and the other IP telephony elements based on the configuration map.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

updating, by the processor, the configuration map as to a movement of an IP telephony element from a first location in the IP telephony network to a second location in the IP telephony network; and

updating, by the processor, the server as to the movement of the IP telephony element from the first location in the IP telephony network to the second location in the IP telephony network based on the configuration map.

12. A method comprising:

receiving, by a processor, a parent site for a child site that is being added to an IP telephony network having sites;

updating, by the processor, a configuration map as to a location of the child site, the configuration map including a location of each of the sites relative to each other site, the configuration map organizing the sites according to a tree-like hierarchy, and the updating of the configuration map resulting in the child site being associated as a child of the parent site within the tree-like hierarchy, and

updating, by the processor, a server as to the location of the child site based on the configuration map.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein:

the location of the child site is determined from the parent site.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein:

a second child site is associated as a child of the parent site within the tree-like hierarchy of the configuration map; and

updating, by the processor, the configuration map to associate the second child site as a child of the first child site.

15. A method comprising:

determining, by a processor using a configuration map, that a first server is assigned to provide IP telephony services to a switch within a site of the first server, the site of the first server being within an IP telephony network having sites and servers, the configuration map including a location of each of the sites relative to each other site, and the configuration map organizing the sites according to a tree-like hierarchy;

updating, by the processor, the configuration map to assign a second server to provide the IP telephony services to the switch, the second server being within the site of the first server;

updating, by the processor, the configuration map as to a removal of the first server from the IP telephony network; and

updating, by the processor, a third server as to the assignment of the second server and the removal of the first server based on the configuration map.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein:

prior to updating the configuration map to assign the second server to provide the IP telephony services to the switch, determining, by the processor using the configuration map, that the second server is assigned to provide backup IP telephony services to the switch; and

updating, by the processor, the configuration map to assign the third server to provide the backup IP telephony services to the switch, the third server being within the site of the IP telephony network.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein:

the IP telephony services are backup IP telephony services.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein:

the IP telephony network further has a plurality of switches at the site of the first server;

the switch is one of the plurality of switches; and

the method further comprises updating, by the processor, the plurality of switches as to the removal of the first server based on the configuration map.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein:

the plurality of switches include site maps with respective server assignments and respective backup server assignments associated with the plurality of switches; and

the updating of the plurality of switches further comprises updating, by the processor, the respective site maps as to the removal of the first server based on the configuration map.

20. The method of claim 15 , wherein:

determining, by the processor, that the site of the first server is connected to at least one younger generation site in the tree-like hierarchy based on the configuration map, and the at least one younger generation site being one of the sites and including other switches; and

updating, by the processor, the other switches as to the removal of the first server based on the configuration map.
