Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a telecommunications connection device. The device including a housing, a plurality of single-fiber connectorized pigtails that extend outwardly from the housing and a multi-fiber connectorized pigtail that extends outwardly from the housing. The multi-fiber connectorized pigtail can be optically coupled with the single fiber connectorized pigtails. The device can include optical fibers routed from the multi-fiber connectorized pigtail through the housing to the single-fiber connectorized pigtails. The single-fiber connectorized pigtails can be more flexible than the multi-fiber connectorized pigtail.

Claims (26)

1. A telecommunications connection device comprising:

a first ruggedized connector;

a first cable including at least one optical fiber, the first cable being terminated by the first ruggedized connector;

a plurality of second ruggedized connectors, the second ruggedized connectors being multi-fiber connectors;

a plurality of second cables, each second multi-fiber cable including at least two optical fibers, each of the second cables being terminated by one of the second ruggedized connectors;

a transition between the first cable and the second cables; and

a breakout housing surrounding the transition, the breakout housing having a flexible construction.

2. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein each second cable is a two-fiber cable.

3. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein each second ruggedized connector has two ferrules.

4. The telecommunications connection device of claim 3 , wherein each second ruggedized connector includes an ODC connector.

5. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein each second ruggedized connector includes a coupling element including a threaded coupler or a bayonet-style coupler.

6. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein each second cable includes cable strength members.

7. The telecommunications connection device of claim 6 , wherein the cable strength members include Aramid yarn.

8. The telecommunications connection device of claim 6 , wherein the cable strength members are anchored to the breakout housing.

9. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein the first cable includes a strength element.

10. The telecommunications connection device of claim 9 , wherein the strength element provides both tensile and compressive reinforcement.

11. The telecommunications connection device of claim 9 , wherein the strength element is anchored to the breakout housing.

12. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein the second cables are more flexible than the first cable.

13. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein the first ruggedized connector is a multi-fiber connector and the first cable is a multi-fiber cable.

14. The telecommunications connection device of claim 13 , wherein each second cable includes fewer optical fibers than the first cable.

15. The telecommunications connection device of claim 13 , wherein the first cable includes twelve optical fibers.

16. The telecommunications connection device of claim 15 , wherein the first cable includes a twelve optical fiber ribbon.

17. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein the transition includes a mass fusion splice.

18. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein the first cable includes two optical fibers.

19. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein the second cables are a same length.

20. The telecommunications connection device of claim 1 , wherein each of the second cables is longer than the first cable.
