Abstract

A community safety system with inter-organizational communication, allowing for members of a first organization to provide alerts when located within a security zone associated with a second organization. A notification management entity, responsible for managing the different safety systems associated with each organization, determines where a user is located and whether the user is associated with any of the organizations responsible for the security zone in which the user is located.

Claims (49)

1. A method of inter-organizational alert communication, comprising:

receiving, by a notification management entity, an alert generated by a user device at a location, wherein the notification management entity comprises one or more servers;

determining, by the notification management entity, whether the location at which the alert is generated by the user device is within a security zone of an organization to which a user of the user device is a member; and

sending, by the notification management entity, the alert to one or more administrator devices of one or more administrator users of the organization based on the determination of whether the location is within the security zone of the organization of which the user of the user device is a member, sending the alert comprises:

based on the user not being a member of the organization:

tagging the alert with anonymity information; and

broadcasting the tagged alert to the one or more administrator devices.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein sending the alert comprises:

based on the user being a member of the organization:

tagging the alert with information identifying the user; and

broadcasting the tagged alert to the one or more administrator devices.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein tagging the alert comprises:

identifying the user; and

locating and retrieving registration data associated with the identified user, the registration data being maintained by the notification management entity.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein a two-way communication channel is opened between the user device and the one or more administrator devices.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the two-way communication channel comprises a dedicated two-way communication channel, the dedicated two-way communication channel configured to carry voice data, text data, video data, or image data.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the anonymity information comprises a non-specific indicator such that the one or more administrator users cannot determine an identity of the user.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the location is identified based on location information generated by a GPS receiver of the user device.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein whether the user is a member of the organization is determined based on a comparison of the location with one or more security zones associated with the organization.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein sending the alert to one or more administrator devices based on the determination of whether the location is within the security zone of the organization of which the user of the user device is a member comprises:

based on the user being a member of the organization and the location of the user being within the security zone of the organization, sending the alert to the one or more administrator devices;

based on the user not being a member of the organization and the location of the user not being within the security zone of the organization, not sending the alert to the one or more administrator devices;

based on the user not being a member of the organization and the location of the user being within the security zone of the organization, sending a modified alert to the one or more administrator devices, the modified alert including the alert tagged with anonymity information; and

based on the user being a member of the organization and the location of the user not being within the security zone of the organization, sending the alert to the one or more administrator devices further based on the user belonging to a user category for which alert generation away from the security zone of the organization is enabled.

10. A system of inter-organizational alert communication, comprising:

a notification management entity comprising one or more servers, the notification management entity configured to:

receive an alert generated by a user device at a location, wherein the user device comprises a memory and a processor;

determine whether the location at which the alert is generated by the user device is within a security zone of an organization to which a user of the user device is a member; and

send the alert to one or more administrator devices of one or more administrator users of the organization based on the determination of whether the location is within the security zone of the organization of which the user of the user device is a member, wherein sending the alert comprises:

based on the user not being a member of the organization:

tagging the alert with anonymity information; and

broadcasting the tagged alert to the one or more administrator devices.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein sending the alert comprises:

based on the user being a member of the organization:

tagging the alert with information identifying the user; and

broadcasting the tagged alert to the one or more administrator devices.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein tagging the alert comprises:

identifying the user; and

locating and retrieving registration data associated with the identified user, the registration data being maintained by the notification management entity.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein a two-way communication channel is opened between the user device and the one or more administrator devices.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the two-way communication channel comprises a dedicated two-way communication channel, the dedicated two-way communication channel configured to carry voice data, text data, video data, or image data.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the anonymity information comprises a non-specific indicator such that the one or more administrator users cannot determine an identity of the user.

16. The system of claim 10 , wherein the location is identified based on location information generated by a GPS receiver of the user device.

17. The system of claim 10 , wherein whether the user is a member of the organization is determined based on a comparison of the location with one or more security zones associated with the organization.

18. The system of claim 10 , wherein sending the alert to one or more administrator devices based on the determination of whether the location is within the security zone of the organization of which the user of the user device is a member comprises:

based on the user being a member of the organization and the location of the user being within the security zone of the organization, sending the alert to the one or more administrator devices;

based on the user not being a member of the organization and the location of the user not being within the security zone of the organization, not sending the alert to the one or more administrator devices;

based on the user not being a member of the organization and the location of the user being within the security zone of the organization, sending a modified alert to the one or more administrator device, the modified alert including the alert tagged with anonymity information; and

based on the user being a member of the organization and the location of the user not being within the security zone of the organization, sending the alert to the one of more administrator devices further based on the user belonging to a user category for which alert generation away from the security zone of the organization is enabled.
