Abstract

A method and system for diagnosing and communicating events associated with one or more components of vehicle is described. In general, a vehicle may provide information regarding its recorded and/or monitored system and component states via a self-diagnostic and/or reporting capability.

Claims (48)

1 . A system for generating a global state information for a vehicle, said system comprising:

a diagnostic module;

a processor;

a non-transitory storage element coupled to the processor;

encoded instructions stored in the non-transitory storage element, wherein the encoded instructions when implemented by the processor, configure the system to:

receive data related to a specific vehicle condition;

receive contextual data related to at least one of a vehicle operator or vehicle;

the diagnostic module applying the specific vehicle condition (threshold-grade) and the contextual data to generate a global state information for the vehicle; and

delivering said information to at least one of a vehicle operator, vehicle occupant, or third-party by at least one of a tactile feedback, visual output, or audio output.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the global state information is delivered to at least one of the vehicle operator or vehicle occupant in a combination of a tactile feedback, followed by at least one of a visual output or audio output.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the tactile feedback is delivered via at least one of a pedal, floor, steering, gear shifter, seat, or belt.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein at least one of the intensity, duration, or pattern of the tactile feedback varies depending on at least one of a severity or type of global state information generated.

5 . The system of claim 2 , wherein at least one of the visual output or audio output following the tactile feedback is delivered to at least one of a console, dash display, speaker, or sound transducer.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the specific vehicle condition parameters are at least one of pre-defined or user-defined and the global state information is only generated upon a threshold-grade specific vehicle condition is reached.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle operator information is recorded at least one of prior, during, or after a specific vehicle condition trigger.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle operator information comprises at least one of speed, braking, G-force, pitch, yaw, location, orientation, origin, destination, miles driven, time driven, operator health, operator physical, or mental condition.

9 . The system of claim 1 , vehicle operator information further comprises contextual data, wherein the contextual data further comprises at least one of a current weather, rolling weather, road condition, traffic, fuel price, calendar, operator health metrics, or operator social or work calendar.

10 . The system of claim wherein the global state information for the vehicle may comprise at least one of an alert, comment, suggestion, option, user input request, question, user compliance rating, or third-party engagement to at least one of a vehicle operator, vehicle occupant, or third-party.

11 . A system for generating a global state information for a vehicle, said system comprising:

a diagnostic module;

a processor;

a non-transitory storage element coupled to the processor;

encoded instructions stored in the non-transitory storage element, wherein the encoded instructions when implemented by the processor, configure the system to:

receive at a processor executable diagnostic module, a signal from one or more components of a vehicle, the signal representing one or more of a code, warning, and indication of a specific vehicle condition;

receive at a processor executable diagnostic module, a signal representing at least one of a vehicle operator information or contextual data;

interpret, by the processor executable diagnostic module, a meaning associated with the signals representing a global state information of the vehicle;

determine, by the processor executable diagnostic module, a conversational meaning based on one or more rules to represent the meaning associated with the global state information of the vehicle; and

provide the conversational meaning to at least one of an operator, occupant, or third-party via a conversational presentation device, wherein the conversational presentation device includes at least one of a tactile feedback, display, text, e-mail, SMS, voicemail, mobile phone, land phone, tablet, desktop, or a speaker.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the global state information is delivered to at least one of the vehicle operator or vehicle occupant in a combination of a tactile feedback, followed by at least one of a visual output or audio output.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the tactile feedback is delivered via at least one of a pedal, floor, steering, gear shifter, seat, or belt.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein at least one of the intensity, duration, or pattern of the tactile feedback varies depending on at least one of a severity or type of global state information generated.

15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the visual output or audio output following the tactile feedback is delivered to at least one of a console, dash display, speaker, or sound transducer.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the specific vehicle condition parameters are at least one of pre-defined or user-defined and the global state information is only generated upon a threshold-grade specific vehicle condition is reached.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the vehicle operator information is recorded at least one of prior, during, or after a specific vehicle condition trigger.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the vehicle operator information comprises at least one of speed, braking, G-force, pitch, yaw, location, orientation, origin, destination, miles driven, time driven, operator health, operator physical, or mental condition.

19 . The system of claim 11 , vehicle operator information further comprises contextual data, wherein the contextual data further comprises at least one of a current weather, rolling weather, road condition, traffic, fuel price, calendar, operator health metrics, or operator social or work calendar.

20 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the global state information for the vehicle may comprise at least one of an alert, comment, suggestion, option, user input request, question, user compliance rating, or third-party engagement to at least one of a vehicle operator, vehicle occupant, or third-party.

21 . A method of providing conversational global state information of a vehicle to a receiving party, comprising:

receiving, at a microprocessor executable diagnostic module, a signal from one or more components of a vehicle, the signal representing one or more of a code, warning, and indication of a specific vehicle condition;

receiving at a microprocessor executable diagnostic module, a signal representing at least one of a vehicle operator information or contextual data;

interpreting, by the microprocessor executable diagnostic module, a meaning associated with the signals representing a global state information of the vehicle;

determining, by the microprocessor executable diagnostic module, a conversational meaning based on one or more rules to represent the meaning associated with the global state information of the vehicle;

providing the conversational meaning to an occupant of the vehicle via a conversational presentation device, wherein the conversational presentation device includes at least one of a tactile feedback, display, or a speaker;

querying, by the microprocessor executable diagnostic module, other components of the vehicle for operational state information relating to the other components in response to receiving the signal, the other components being different types of components than the one or more components from which a signal representing one or more of a code, warning, and indication was received; and

if it is determined that there are one or more relationships between at least one of the other components of the vehicle and the signal from the one or more components of the vehicle, then:

identifying, by the microprocessor executable diagnostic module, an actual or potential malfunction associated with at least one of the other components of the vehicle based on a result of the query and a relationship between the at least one of the other components of the vehicle and the one or more components of the vehicle providing the signal; and

providing, via the conversational presentation device, conversational advice to the occupant of the vehicle, wherein the conversational advice includes information configured to at least alert the occupant of the vehicle of the actual or potential malfunction associated with at least one of the other components of the vehicle;

wherein each of the receiving, interpreting, determining, querying, and identifying operations are performed locally within the vehicle.
