Abstract

A wall configured to couple to a shelter and extend around at least a portion of a perimeter of the shelter. The wall includes a first end having a first attachment mechanism configured to engage with a second attachment mechanism of the shelter, a second end opposite the first end, a sidewall extending between the first end and the second end, and a third attachment mechanism coupled proximal to the second end and configured to engage with a fourth attachment mechanism disposed on the shelter to couple the wall to the shelter.

Claims (64)

1. An expandable shelter configurable between a stowed state and a deployed state, the expandable shelter comprising:

a top having a plurality of ceiling panels that unfold from the top, wherein individual ceiling panels of the plurality of ceiling panels include:

an outer perimeter;

an upper surface; and

a lower surface having a channel disposed interior to the outer perimeter, wherein the channel traverses at least a portion of the outer perimeter of the individual ceiling panels;

a flexible sidewall including:

a first end having a fastener configured to be disposed within the channel of the individual ceiling panels in the deployed state;

a second end opposite the first end; and

first attachment mechanisms disposed at the second end of the flexible sidewall;

a bottom having a plurality of floor panels that unfold from the bottom, the plurality of floor panels being substantially parallel to the bottom in the deployed state, and wherein individual floor panels of the plurality of floor panels include:

an outer perimeter;

an upper surface; and

a lower surface having second attachment mechanisms configured to couple to the first attachment mechanisms of the flexible sidewall, and wherein in the deployed state of the expandable shelter the second end of the flexible sidewall wraps around the outer perimeter of the individual floor panels and is secured by an engagement of the first attachment mechanisms with the second attachment mechanisms.

2. The expandable shelter of claim 1 , wherein at least one of:

the first attachment mechanisms or second attachment mechanisms comprise straps; and

another of the first attachment mechanisms or second attachment mechanisms comprise tie-downs configured to engage with the straps.

3. The expandable shelter of claim 1 , wherein when the expandable shelter is in the deployed state:

the flexible sidewall extends around at least a portion of a perimeter of each of the individual ceiling panels; and

the fastener of the flexible sidewall is received in the channel of each of the individual ceiling panels.

The expandable shelter of claim 1 , further comprising an extendable rigid sidewall disposed between at least two of the plurality of ceiling panels and at least two of the plurality of floor panels, the extendable sidewall including a first side having a first clamp and a second side having a second clamp, and wherein:

the flexible sidewall further includes a first side and a second side;

the first side of the flexible sidewall couples to the first side of the extendable rigid sidewall in the deployed state via the first clamp; and

the second side of the flexible sidewall couples to the second side of the extendable rigid sidewall in the deployed state via the second clamp.

5. An expandable system configured to transition between a stowed state and a deployed state, the expandable system comprising:

a top frame including a first plurality of rigid panels, the first plurality of rigid panels being hingedly coupled to the top frame, and wherein individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels include an outer perimeter;

a bottom frame including a second plurality of rigid panels, the second plurality of rigid panels being hingedly coupled to the bottom frame, and wherein individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels include an outer perimeter; and

a flexible sidewall including a top end and a bottom end, wherein the top end is operably coupled interior to the outer perimeter of the individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state, and wherein the bottom end is disposed over the outer perimeter of the individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state;

wherein the individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels include a channel; the top end of the flexible sidewall includes a fastener; and the top end of the flexible sidewall is operably coupled interior to the outer perimeter of the individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels via engagement between the fastener of the flexible sidewall and the channel of each of the individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels.

6. The expandable system of claim 5 , wherein the bottom end of the flexible sidewall couples to the individual rigid panels of the 4 second plurality of rigid panels.

7. The expandable system of claim 5 , wherein the channel follows at least a portion of the outer perimeter of the individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels.

8. The expandable system of claim 5 , wherein the first plurality of rigid panels are substantially parallel to the second plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state.

9. An expandable system configured to transition between a stowed state and a deployed state, the expandable system comprising:

a top frame including a first plurality of rigid panels, the first plurality of rigid panels being hingedly coupled to the top frame, and wherein individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels include an outer perimeter;

a bottom frame including a second plurality of rigid panels, the second plurality of rigid panels being hingedly coupled to the bottom frame, and wherein individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels include an outer perimeter; and

a flexible sidewall including a top end and a bottom end, wherein the top end is operably coupled interior to the outer perimeter of the individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state, and wherein the bottom end is disposed over the outer perimeter of the individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state;

wherein the individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels include an upper surface and a lower surface; and

the bottom end of the flexible sidewall is coupled to the lower surface of the second plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state.

10. An expandable system configured to transition between a stowed state and a deployed state, the expandable system comprising:

a top frame including a first plurality of rigid panels, the first plurality of rigid panels being hingedly coupled to the top frame, and wherein individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels include an outer perimeter;

a bottom frame including a second plurality of rigid panels, the second plurality of rigid panels being hingedly coupled to the bottom frame, and wherein individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels include an outer perimeter; and

a flexible sidewall including a top end and a bottom end, wherein the top end is operably coupled interior to the outer perimeter of the individual rigid panels of the first plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state, and wherein the bottom end is disposed over the outer perimeter of the individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state;

wherein the flexible sidewall further includes at least one of a plurality of tie-downs disposed adjacent to the bottom end or a plurality of straps disposed adjacent to the bottom end;

the individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels include an upper surface and a lower surface, the lower surface including another of the at least one of the plurality of tie-downs or the plurality of straps; and

the flexible sidewall is operably coupled to the individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels via individual straps of the plurality of straps engaging with individual tie-downs of the plurality of tie-downs.

11. The expandable system of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of tie-downs include at least one of ratchet tie-downs or cam buckle tie-downs.

12. The expandable system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of tie-downs are disposed beneath the lower surface of the individual rigid panels of the second plurality of rigid panels in the deployed state.

13. The expandable system of claim 10 , wherein the second plurality of rigid panels are disposed interior to the first plurality of rigid panels in the stowed state.

14. A wall configured to couple to a shelter and extend around at least a portion of a perimeter of the shelter, the wall comprising:

a first end having a first attachment mechanism, wherein the first attachment mechanism is configured to engage with a second attachment mechanism of the shelter;

a second end opposite the first end;

a sidewall extending between the first end and the second end; and

a third attachment mechanism coupled proximal to the second end, wherein the third attachment mechanism is configured to engage with a fourth attachment mechanism disposed on the shelter to couple the wall to the shelter;

wherein:

the first attachment mechanism includes a fastener;

the second attachment mechanism includes a channel;

the fastener is configured to be disposed in the channel; and

a portion of the sidewall is sewn around the fastener.

15. The wall of claim 14 , wherein:

the third attachment mechanism includes at least one of a plurality of tie-downs or a plurality of straps, individual tie-downs of the plurality of tie-downs engaging with individual straps of the plurality of straps; and

the fourth attachment mechanism includes at least the other of the plurality of tie-downs or the plurality of straps.

The wall of claim 14 , wherein the first end is coupled interior to a perimeter of ceiling panels of the shelter and at least a portion of the sidewall is configured to be disposed over a perimeter of floor panels of the shelter to form a water-resistant enclosure and prevent water from reaching an interior of the shelter.

17. The wall of claim 16 , wherein the at least the portion of the sidewall disposed over the perimeter of floor panels of the shelter is proximal to the second end.

18. The wall of claim 14 , wherein the sidewall includes one or more of a window or a door.

19. The wall of claim 14 , wherein the fastener is a boltrope.
