Abstract

A system and method for enabling voice services using a network component in a communication system including a user equipment (UE) is provided. The UE is configured to receive a first message which may be a SIP request. The network component is configured to create a second message, or SIP request, based upon the first message. The network component further configured to subsequently receive a SIP response and select a subsequent action upon receiving the SIP response.

Claims (29)

1. A method for a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:

receiving, at the UE, an initial Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Invite request, the initial SIP invite request including a session description protocol (SDP) offer allowing selection, by the UE, between an internet protocol (IP) bearer or a circuit-switched (CS) bearer;

in response to the initial SIP Invite request, determining that a voice setting in the UE is one of “CS only” or “CS preferred”; and

in response to determining that the voice setting in the UE is one of “CS only” or “CS preferred,” determining that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable based on the following scenarios:

if the voice setting in the UE is determined to be “CS only,” in response to determining that the UE has not performed a successful non-access stratum (NAS) combined attach procedure, determining that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable, wherein the successful NAS combined attach procedure attaches the UE to both a packet-switched (PS) core and to a circuit-switched (CS) domain;

if the voice setting in the UE is determined to be “CS preferred,” in response to determining that the UE has not performed the successful combined attach procedure, determining that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable, wherein an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) over PS session is not supported.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein allowing selection between the IP bearer or the CS bearer comprises allowing selection of the IP bearer or the CS bearer for an audio session.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the SIP response including an indication that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable comprises a SIP 606 (Not Acceptable) response.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the SIP response including an indication that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable comprises a SIP 488 response.

5. A user equipment (UE) comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor comprising processing hardware platform, wherein the processing hardware platform is configured to execute instructions stored in the memory, the instructions causing the at least one processor to:

receive, at the UE, an initial Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Invite request, the initial SIP invite request including a session description protocol (SDP) offer allowing selection, by the UE, between an internet protocol (IP) bearer or a circuit-switched (CS) bearer;

in response to the initial SIP Invite request, determine that a voice setting in the UE is one of “CS only” or “CS preferred”; and

in response to determining that the voice setting in the UE is one of “CS only” or “CS preferred,” determine that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable based on the following scenarios:

if the voice setting in the UE is determined to be “CS only,” in response to determining that the UE has not performed a successful non-access stratum (NAS) combined attach procedure, determine that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable, wherein the successful NAS combined attach procedure attaches the UE to both a packet-switched (PS) core and to a circuit-switched (CS) domain;

if the voice setting in the UE is determined to be “CS preferred,” in response to determining that the UE has not performed the successful combined attach procedure, determining that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable, wherein an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) over PS session is not supported.

6. The user equipment of claim 5 , wherein allowing selection between the IP bearer or the CS bearer comprises allowing selection of the IP bearer or the CS bearer for an audio session.

7. The user equipment of claim 5 , wherein the SIP response including an indication that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable comprises a SIP 606 (Not Acceptable) response.

8. The user equipment of claim 5 , wherein the SIP response including an indication that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable comprises a SIP 488 response.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer instructions, that when executed by one or more hardware processors, cause a computing device to perform operations comprising:

receiving, at a user equipment (UE), an initial Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Invite request, the initial SIP invite request including a session description protocol (SDP) offer allowing selection, by the UE, between an internet protocol (IP) bearer or a circuit-switched (CS) bearer;

in response to the initial SIP Invite request, determining that a voice setting in the UE is one of “CS only” or “CS preferred”; and

in response to determining that the voice setting in the UE is one of “CS only” or “CS preferred,” determining that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable based on the following scenarios:

if the voice setting in the UE is determined to be “CS only,” in response to determining that the UE has not performed a successful non-access stratum (NAS) combined attach procedure, determining that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable, wherein the successful NAS combined attach procedure attaches the UE to both a packet-switched (PS) core and to a circuit-switched (CS) domain;

if the voice setting in the UE is determined to be “CS preferred,” in response to determining that the UE has not performed the successful combined attach procedure, determining that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable, wherein an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) over PS session is not supported.

10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein allowing selection between the IP bearer or the CS bearer comprises allowing selection of the IP bearer or the CS bearer for an audio session.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the SIP response including an indication that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable comprises a SIP 606 (Not Acceptable) response.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the SIP response including an indication that the initial SIP Invite request is not acceptable comprises a SIP 488 response.
