Abstract

A scale and scanner system includes a controller to control operation of the scale and scanner system. A scale calibration parameter memory for storing scale calibration parameters is coupleable to the controller. A scanning module and a scale module are coupleable to the controller. When the controller is not coupled to the scanning module or scale module, the scale calibration parameter memory remains in the system.

Claims (19)

1. A scale and scanner system comprising: a controller board comprising a processing unit and a first memory; the first memory comprising scale calibration parameters and instructions processed by the processing unit; the processing unit configured to execute the instructions to control operation of the scale and scanner system; a scale calibration parameter memory coupleable to and separate from the controller board and the first memory of the controller board, wherein the scale calibration parameter memory is configured to store scale calibration parameters; a scanning module coupleable to the processing unit of the controller board; and a scale module coupleable to the processing unit of the controller board;

wherein when the processing unit of the controller board completes a scale calibration process, the processing unit is configured to store the scale calibration parameters in the first memory and in the scale calibration memory, and wherein when the processing unit is not coupled to the scanning module or the scale module, the scale calibration parameter memory remains in the system with the scale calibration parameters stored in the scale calibration parameter memory and the processing unit is configured to retrieve from the first memory the scale calibration parameters from the scale calibration parameter memory when the controller board is installed and coupled to the scanning module or the scale module.

2. The scale and scanner system of claim 1 , further comprising a chassis configured to hold the scanning module and the scale module.

3. The scale and scanner system of claim 2 , wherein the scanning module is rotatably coupled to the chassis with pivot mechanisms.

4. The scale and scanner system of claim 3 , wherein each pivot mechanism comprises:

a pivot extension coupled to and extending from the scanning module; and

a pivot extension support coupled to and extending from the chassis.

5. The scale and scanner system of claim 4 , wherein the pivot extension support comprises a pair of support extensions forming a semi-circular opening between the support extensions.

6. The scale and scanner system of claim 5 , wherein the scanning module is rotatably coupled to the chassis by:

the pivot extension comprises: a first pivot extension and a second pivot extension;

the pair of support extensions comprises: a first pivot extension support and a second pivot extension support;

the first pivot extension extending from a first side of the scanning module;

the second pivot extension extending from a second side of the scanning module, the first side being opposite to the second side and the first and second pivot extensions aligned along an axis;

the first pivot extension support extending from the chassis; and

the second pivot extension support extending from the chassis;

wherein the first pivot extension rests in the semi-circular opening of the first pivot extension support and the second pivot extension rests in the semi-circular opening of the second pivot extension support.

7. The scale and scanner system of claim 6 , wherein the chassis further comprises rotation preventing tabs extending from the scanning module.

8. The scale and scanner system of claim 1 , further comprising a scale cable configured to couple the scale module to the processing unit of the controller board, wherein the scale calibration parameter memory is located on the scale cable.

9. The scale and scanner system of claim 1 , wherein the scale calibration parameter memory is physically separate from the controller.
