Abstract

An image capture device may be physically connected to a computing device using a data cable. The image capture device may masquerade as an ethernet card to the computing device over the physical connection. The image capture device may communicate with the computing device over the physical connection using a wireless communication protocol.

Claims (33)

1. An image capture device directly connecting to a computing device, the image capture device comprising:

a housing;

an image sensor carried by the housing and configured to generate a visual output signal conveying visual information based on light that becomes incident thereon, the visual information defining visual content;

an optical element carried by the housing and configured to guide light within a field of view to the image sensor;

a data port carried by the housing and configured to connect to a data cable, wherein the data cable is configured to be connected to the computing device to establish a physical data connection between the image capture device and the computing device; and

one or more physical processors configured by machine-readable instructions to:

masquerade the image capture device as an ethernet card to the computing device over the physical data connection;

associate the image capture device with a first IP address;

associate the computing device with a second IP address; and

communicate with the computing device using a wireless communication protocol over the physical data connection based on the first IP address and the second IP address.

2. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein the data port includes a USB port.

3. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein the image capture device receives power from the computing device over the data cable.

4. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein communication between the image capture device and the computing device using the wireless communication protocol over the physical data connection includes data transfer communication between the image capture device and the computing device.

5. The image capture device of claim 4 , wherein the data transfer communication between the image capture device and the computing device includes: transfer of information defining the visual content captured by the image capture device; transfer of information defining edit to the visual content captured by the image capture device.

6. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein communication between the image capture device and the computing device using the wireless communication protocol over the physical data connection includes command transfer communication between the image capture device and the computing device.

7. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein the wireless communication protocol includes Wi-Fi protocol.

8. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein availability of the communication between the image capture device and the computing device using the wireless communication protocol over the physical data connection is checked using Bluetooth communication.

9. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein additional communication protocol or alternative communication protocol is used to communicate with the computing device over the physical data connection.

10. The image capture device of claim 9 , wherein the additional communication protocol or the alternative communication protocol includes media transfer protocol.

11. A method for directly connecting an image capture device to a computing device, the method performed by the image capture device including one or more processors, an image sensor, an optical element, and a data port, the image sensor configured to generate a visual output signal conveying visual information based on light that becomes incident thereon, the visual information defining visual content, the optical element configured to guide light within a field of view to the image sensor, the data port configured to connect to a data cable, the data cable configured to be connected to the computing device to establish a physical data connection between the image capture device and the computing device, the method comprising:

masquerading the image capture device as an ethernet card to the computing device over the physical data connection;

associating the image capture device with a first IP address;

associating the computing device with a second IP address; and

communicating with the computing device using a wireless communication protocol over the physical data connection based on the first IP address and the second IP address.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the data port includes a USB port.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the image capture device receives power from the computing device over the data cable.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein communication between the image capture device and the computing device using the wireless communication protocol over the physical data connection includes data transfer communication between the image capture device and the computing device.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the data transfer communication between the image capture device and the computing device includes: transfer of information defining the visual content captured by the image capture device; transfer of information defining edit to the visual content captured by the image capture device.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein communication between the image capture device and the computing device using the wireless communication protocol over the physical data connection includes command transfer communication between the image capture device and the computing device.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wireless communication protocol includes Wi-Fi protocol.

18. The method of claim 11 , wherein availability of the communication between the image capture device and the computing device using the wireless communication protocol over the physical data connection is checked using Bluetooth communication.

19. The method of claim 11 , wherein additional communication protocol or alternative communication protocol is used to communicate with the computing device over the physical data connection.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the additional communication protocol or the alternative communication protocol includes media transfer protocol.
