Abstract

Aspects of the invention can be directed to a boot including a sole portion, a lower portion, and a boot shaft portion. The sole portion, the lower portion and the boot shaft portion can be formed as a unitary member composed of a single compound. The wherein the single compound can include: EVA in the range of 17% to 27%, POE in the range of 6% to 16%, SEBS in the range of 10% to 20%, and rubber in the range of 19% to 29%.

Claims (85)

1. A boot, comprising:

a sole portion;

a lower portion; and

a boot shaft portion,

wherein the sole portion, the lower portion and the boot shaft portion are formed as a unitary member composed of a single compound, and

wherein the single compound includes:

styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymer (SEBS),

ethyl vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) in the range of 17% to 27% by weight; and

polyolefin elastomer (POE) in the range of 6% to 16% by weight,

wherein the single compound additionally comprises a rubber which is a styrenic block copolymer (SBC) consisting of polystyrene blocks and rubber blocks, and

wherein the boot has at least one of the following:

(i) a dry skid resistance in the range of u 0.30 to u 0.80, and wet skid resistance in the range of u 0.35 to u 0.60, determined according to F2913-2011,

(ii) a Shore A hardness in the range of 20H to 35H and a Shore C hardness in the range of 35H to 48H, determined according to ASTM 02240,

(iii) a compression set of not more than 30%, determined according to SATRA TM156:2002,620n,

(iv) a density in the range of 0.2 to 0.7 mg per cubic meter (mg m 3 ), determined according to ASTM D297,

(v) an abrasion resistance in the range of about 0.1 to about 0.5 g after 10,000 cycles, determined according to ASTM D3886-99.

2. The boot of claim 1 , wherein the single compound includes:

EVA in the range of 20% to 24% by weight; and

POE in the range of 9% to 13% by weight.

3. The boot of claim 2 , wherein the single compound includes:

EVA 22% by weight; and

POE 11% by weight.

4. The boot of claim 1 , wherein the single compound further includes:

a bridging agent in the range of 0% to 2 by weight %.

5. The boot of claim 4 , wherein the single compound further includes a foaming agent in the range of 0% to 4% by weight.

6. The boot of claim 1 , wherein the boot is formed by a single shot injection molding process.

7. The boot of claim 1 , wherein the boot is formed by a two step compression molding process.

8. The boot of claim 1 , which has a dry skid resistance in the range of u 0.30 to u 0.80, and wet skid resistance in the range of u 0.35 to u 0.60, determined according to F2913-2011.

9. The boot of claim 1 , which has a Shore A hardness in the range of 20H to 35H and a Shore C hardness in the range of 35H to 48H, determined according to ASTM D2240.

10. The boot of claim 1 , which has a compression set of not more than 30%, determined according to SATRA TM156:2002,620n.

11. The boot of claim 1 , which has a density in the range of 0.2 to 0.7 mg per cubic meter (mg/m 3 ), determined according to ASTM 0297.

12. The boot of claim 1 ; which has an abrasion resistance in the range of about 0.1 to about 0.5 g after 10; 000 cycles, determined according to ASTM D3886-99.

13. A sandal, comprising:

a sole portion; and

an upper portion,

wherein the sole portion and the upper portion are formed as a unitary member composed of a single compound, and

wherein the single compound includes:

styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymer (SEBS),

ethyl vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) in the range of 17% to 27% by weight; and

polyolefin elastomer (POE) in the range of 6% to 16% by weight,

wherein the single compound additionally comprises a rubber which is a styrenic block copolymer (SBC) consisting of polystyrene blocks and rubber blocks, and

wherein the sandal has at least one of the following:

(i) a dry skid resistance in the range of u 0.30 to u 0.80, and wet skid resistance in the range of u 0.35 to u 0.60, determined according to F2913-2011,

(ii) a Shore A hardness in the range of 20H to 35H and a Shore C hardness in the range of 35H to 48H, determined according to ASTM 02240,

(iii) a compression set of not more than 30%, determined according to SATRA TM156:2002,620n,

(iv) a density in the range of 0.2 to 0.7 mg per cubic meter (mg/m 3 ), determined according to ASTM D297,

(v) an abrasion resistance in the range of about 0.1 to about 0.5 g after 10,000 cycles, determined according to ASTM 03886-99.

14. The sandal of claim 13 , wherein the single compound includes:

EVA in the range of 20% to 24% by weight; and

POE in the range of 9% to 13% by weight.

15. The sandal of claim 13 , wherein the single compound includes:

EVA 22% by weight; and

POE 11% by weight.

16. The sandal of claim 13 , wherein the single compound further includes:

a bridging agent in the range of 0% to 2% by weight.

17. The sandal of claim 16 , wherein the single compound further includes a foaming agent in the range of 0% to 4% by weight.

18. The sandal of claim 13 , wherein the sandal is formed by a single shot injection molding process.

19. The sandal of claim 13 , wherein the sandal is formed by a two step compression molding process.

20. The sandal of claim 13 , wherein the upper portion includes one or more straps.

21. The sandal of claim 13 , wherein the upper portion includes a toe post.

22. The sandal of claim 13 , wherein the upper portion includes a plurality of apertures.

23. The sandal of claim 13 , which has a dry skid resistance in the range of u 0.30 to u 0.80; and wet skid resistance in the range of u 0.35 to u 0.60, determined according to F2913-2011.

24. The sandal of claim 13 ; which has a Shore A hardness in the range of 20H to 35H and a Shore C hardness in the range of 35H to 48H, determined according to ASTM D2240.

25. The sandal of claim 13 , which has a compression set of not more than 30%, determined according to SATRA TM156:2002,620n.

26. The sandal of claim 8 , which has a density in the range of 0.2 to 0.7 mg per cubic meter (mg/m 3 ), determined according to ASTM D297.

27. The sandal of claim 13 ; which has an abrasion resistance in the range of about 0.1 to about 0.5 g after 10,000 cycles, determined according to ASTM D3886-99.

28. A sandal, comprising:

a sole portion; and

an upper portion,

wherein the sole portion and the upper portion are composed of a single compound, and

wherein the single compound includes:

styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymer (SEBS),

ethyl vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) in the range of 17% to 27% by weight; and

polyolefin elastomer (POE) in the range of 6% to 16% by weight,

wherein the single compound additionally comprises a rubber which is a styrenic block copolymer (SBC) consisting of polystyrene blocks and rubber blocks, and

wherein the sandal has at least one of the following:

(i) a dry skid resistance in the range of u 0.30 to u 0.80, and wet skid resistance in the range of u 0.35 to u 0.60, determined according to F2913-2011,

(ii) a Shore A hardness in the range of 20H to 35H and a Shore C hardness in the range of 35H to 48H, determined according to ASTM D2240,

(iii) a compression set of not more than 30%, determined according to SATRA TM156:2002,620n,

(iv) a density in the range of 0.2 to 0.7 mg per cubic meter (mg/m3), determined according to ASTM D297,

(v) an abrasion resistance in the range of about 0.1 to about 0.5 g after 10,000 cycles, determined according to ASTM D3886-99.

29. The sandal according to claim 28 , wherein the sole is selected from the group consisting of a unitary sole, an insole, an outsole, and a combination of an insole and an outsole.

30. The sandal according to claim 29 , wherein the sole comprises an insole and an outsole.

31. The sandal according to claim 30 , wherein the insole and the outsole are the same color.

32. The sandal according to claim 30 , wherein the insole and the outsole are different colors.
