Abstract

Systems and methods comprising determining a first user in proximity to a point of sale (POS) device of a second user, the POS device having detected an identity of the first user and a number of devices associated with the POS device. The number of devices is compared to a baseline number of devices in proximity to the POS device, which is based on a time of day and calculated from a time period prior to the time of day. Based on a determination that the number differs from the baseline number by more than a threshold amount, data is generated that includes an indication configured to be displayed utilizing a client application executing on a device of the first user, wherein user interaction with the indication enables the user to at least one of initiate or modify a transaction with the second user.

Claims (46)

1. A method comprising:

determining at least one user in proximity to a point of sale (POS) device of another user, the POS device having electronically detected an identity of the at least one user and a number of devices associated with one or more client applications executing on user devices;

comparing the number to a baseline number of mobile electronic devices in proximity to the POS device, the baseline number based at least in part on a time of day, the baseline number calculated from a time period prior to the time of day;

determining that the number differs from the baseline number by more than a threshold amount; and

generating, based at least in part on determining that the number differs from the baseline number by more than the threshold amount, an indication on a client application executing on a device of the at least one user, wherein user interaction with the indication enables the user to at least one of initiate or modify a transaction with the other user.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving the number of the devices from the POS device, the number of devices based at least in part on users who have checked in at a location of the other user.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving the number of the devices from the POS device, the number of devices based at least in part on devices that are tethered to a wireless access point (WAP) at or in proximity of a location of the other user.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending, based at least in part on the number differing from the baseline number by more than the threshold amount, a notification indicating an extended wait time to be seated at the other user.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining at least one of current weather at a location of the other user, current traffic proximate to the location, or whether a predefined event is scheduled to occur proximate to the location within a threshold amount of time; and

determining a state of the other user based on at least one of the current weather, the current traffic, or whether the predefined event is scheduled to occur.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a type of good or service offered by the other user; and

determining the baseline number based at least in part on the type of good or service.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending, based at least in part on the number differing from the baseline number by more than the threshold amount, a notification indicating a shortened wait time to be seated at the other user.

8. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

determining at least one user in proximity to a point of sale (POS) device of another user, the POS device having electronically detected an identity of the at least one user and a number of devices associated with one or more client applications executing on user devices;

comparing the number to a baseline number of mobile electronic devices in proximity to the POS device, the baseline number based at least in part on a time of day, the baseline number calculated from a time period prior to the time of day;

determining that the number differs from the baseline number by more than a threshold amount; and

generating, based at least in part on determining that the number differs from the baseline number by more than the threshold amount, an indication on a client application executing on a device of the at least one user, wherein user interaction with the indication enables the user to at least one of initiate or modify a transaction with the other user.

9. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising receiving the number of the devices from the POS device, the number of devices based at least in part on users who have checked in at a location of the other user.

10. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising receiving the number of the devices from the POS device, the number of devices based at least in part on devices that are tethered to a wireless access point (WAP) at or in proximity of a location of the other user.

11. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising sending, based at least in part on the number differing from the baseline number by more than the threshold amount, a notification indicating an extended wait time to be seated at the other user.

12. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:

determining at least one of current weather at a location of the other user, current traffic proximate to the location, or whether a predefined event is scheduled to occur proximate to the location within a threshold amount of time; and

determining a state of the other user based on at least one of the current weather, the current traffic, or whether the predefined event is scheduled to occur.

13. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:

determining a type of good or service offered by the other user; and

determining the baseline number based at least in part on the type of good or service.

14. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising sending, based at least in part on the number differing from the baseline number by more than the threshold amount, a notification indicating a shortened wait time to be seated at the other user.

15. A method comprising:

determining a first user in proximity to a point of sale (POS) device of a second user, the POS device having detected an identity of the first user and a number of devices associated with the POS device;

comparing the number to a baseline number of devices in proximity to the POS device, the baseline number based at least in part on a time of day and calculated from a time period prior to the time of day;

determining that the number differs from the baseline number by more than a threshold amount; and

generating, based at least in part on determining that the number differs from the baseline number by more than the threshold amount, data including an indication configured to be displayed utilizing a client application executing on a device of the first user, wherein user interaction with the indication enables the user to at least one of initiate or modify a transaction with the second user.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising receiving the number of the devices from the POS device, the number of devices based at least in part on users who have checked in at a location of the second user.

17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising receiving the number of the devices from the POS device, the number of devices based at least in part on the devices that are tethered to a wireless access point (WAP) at or in proximity of a location of the second user.

18. The method of claim 15 , further comprising sending, based at least in part on the number differing from the baseline number by more than the threshold amount, a notification indicating an extended wait time or a shortened wait time to be seated with the second user.

19. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

determining at least one of current weather at a location of the second user, current traffic proximate to the location, or whether a predefined event is scheduled to occur proximate to the location within a threshold amount of time; and

determining a state of the second user based on at least one of the current weather, the current traffic, or whether the predefined event is scheduled to occur.

20. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

determining a type of good or service offered by the second user; and

determining the baseline number based at least in part on the type of good or service.
