Abstract

A program map table in a transport stream comprising an elementary stream identifier indicating a particular elementary stream, a high dynamic range flag indicating the presence or absence of high dynamic range content within the elementary stream, and a wide color gamut flag indicating the presence or absence of wide color gamut content within the elementary stream.

Claims (92)

1. An apparatus including a processor receiving a transport stream, the apparatus comprising:

(a) said transport stream includes a program map table;

(b) said program map table indicates an elementary stream with a stream type and an elementary stream identifier;

(c) said elementary stream indicates a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) stream by using a particular stream type value;

(d) a High Efficiency Video Coding video descriptor associated with said HEVC stream signaling a presence or an absence of a high dynamic range (HDR) content and a wide color gamut (WCG) content in said elementary stream;

(e) wherein said high dynamic range (HDR) content and said wide color gamut (WCG) content are signaled separately in 2 flags or combined into 2 bits of a single syntax element that indicates the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG content.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said syntax element signals both the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG using two bits.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein said HEVC video descriptor is included in a bitstream encoded with HEVC.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content, wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content, and/or wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

8. A method of decoding a video included in a transport stream, the method comprising:

(a) receiving at a decoder said transport stream that includes a program map table;

(b) receiving at said decoder said program map table that indicates an elementary stream with stream type and elementary stream identifier;

(c) receiving at said decoder said elementary stream that indicates a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) stream by using a particular stream type value;

(d) receiving at said decoder an HEVC video descriptor associated with said HEVC stream signaling a presence or absence of a high dynamic range (HDR) content and a wide color gamut (WCG) content in said elementary stream;

(e) wherein said high dynamic range (HDR) content and said wide color gamut (WCG) content are signaled separately in 2 flags or combined into 2 bits of a single syntax element that indicates the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG content.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein said syntax element signals both the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG using two bits.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein said HEVC video descriptor is included in a bitstream encoded with HEVC.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content, wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content, and/or wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

15. An apparatus including a processor providing a transport stream, the apparatus comprising:

(a) said transport stream includes a program map table provided together with a bitstream of video;

(b) said program map table indicates an elementary stream with a stream type and an elementary stream identifier;

(c) said elementary stream indicates a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) stream by using a particular stream type value;

(d) a High Efficiency Video Coding video descriptor associated with said HEVC stream signaling a presence or an absence of a high dynamic range (HDR) content and a wide color gamut (WCG) content in said elementary stream;

(e) wherein said high dynamic range (HDR) content and said wide color gamut (WCG) content are signaled separately in 2 flags or combined into 2 bits of a single syntax element that indicates the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG content.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said syntax element signals both the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG using two bits.

17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein said HEVC video descriptor is included in a bitstream encoded with HEVC.

18. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content.

19. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

20. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

21. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content, wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content, and/or wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

22. A method of encoding a video included in a transport stream, the method comprising:

(a) providing said transport stream that includes a program map table;

(b) providing said program map table that indicates an elementary stream with stream type and elementary stream identifier;

(c) providing said elementary stream that indicates a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) stream by using a particular stream type value;

(d) providing an HEVC video descriptor associated with said HEVC stream signaling a presence or absence of a high dynamic range (HDR) content and a wide color gamut (WCG) content in said elementary stream;

(e) wherein said high dynamic range (HDR) content and said wide color gamut (WCG) content are signaled separately in 2 flags or combined into 2 bits of a single syntax element that indicates the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG content.

23. The method of claim 22 , wherein said syntax element signals both the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG using two bits.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein said HEVC video descriptor is included in a bitstream encoded with HEVC.

25. The method of claim 22 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content.

26. The method of claim 22 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

27. The method of claim 22 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

28. The method of claim 22 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content, wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content, and/or wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

29. A computer-readable storage device storing a non-transitory video bitstream including a transport stream of encoded video, the video bitstream comprising:

(a) said transport stream includes a program map table;

(b) said program map table indicates an elementary stream with a stream type and an elementary stream identifier;

(c) said elementary stream indicates a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) stream by using a particular stream type value;

(d) a High Efficiency Video Coding video descriptor associated with said HEVC stream signaling a presence or an absence of a high dynamic range (HDR) content and a wide color gamut (WCG) content in said elementary stream;

(e) wherein said high dynamic range (HDR) content and said wide color gamut (WCG) content are signaled separately in 2 flags or combined into 2 bits of a single syntax element that indicates the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG content.

30. The storage device of claim 29 , wherein said syntax element signals both the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG using two bits.

31. The storage device of claim 30 , wherein said HEVC video descriptor is included in a bitstream encoded with HEVC.

32. The storage device of claim 29 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content.

33. The storage device of claim 29 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

34. The storage device of claim 29 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

35. The storage device of claim 29 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content, wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content, and/or wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

36. A method of storing on a computer-readable storage device a video bitstream including a transport stream of encoded video, the method comprising:

(a) storing said transport stream that includes a program map table;

(b) storing said program map table that indicates an elementary stream with stream type and elementary stream identifier;

(c) storing said elementary stream that indicates a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) stream by using a particular stream type value;

(d) storing an HEVC video descriptor associated with said HEVC stream signaling a presence or absence of a high dynamic range (HDR) content and a wide color gamut (WCG) content in said elementary stream;

(e) wherein said high dynamic range (HDR) content and said wide color gamut (WCG) content are signaled separately in 2 flags or combined into 2 bits of a single syntax element that indicates the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG content.

37. The method of claim 36 , wherein said syntax element signals both the presence or absence of HDR and/or WCG using two bits.

38. The method of claim 37 , wherein said HEVC video descriptor is included in a bitstream encoded with HEVC.

39. The method of claim 36 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content.

40. The method of claim 36 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

41. The method of claim 36 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

42. The method of claim 36 , wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of standard dynamic range (SDR) content, wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the wide color gamut (WCG) content, and/or wherein said single syntax element can selectively indicate the presence of the high dynamic range (HDR) content and the wide color gamut (WCG) content.

43. A decoder including a processor for decoding a video included in a transport stream, the decoder comprising:

(a) said decoder receiving said transport stream that includes a program map table;

(b) said decoder receiving said program map table indicates an elementary stream with stream type and elementary stream identifier;

(c) said decoder receiving said elementary stream that indicates a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) stream by using a particular stream type value;

(d) said decoder receiving a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) video descriptor associated with said HEVC stream signaling a presence or an absence of a high dynamic range (HDR) content and a wide color gamut (WCG) content in said elementary stream;

(e) wherein said high dynamic range (HDR) content and said wide color gamut (WCG) content are signaled within a single syntax element that indicates the presence or absence of HDR and WCG content.

44. The decoder of claim 43 , wherein said HEVC video descriptor is included in a bitstream encoded with HEVC.

45. The decoder of claim 43 , wherein the program map table further comprises a stream type identifier indicating an encoding scheme used to encode said elementary stream.

46. The decoder of claim 45 , wherein said stream type identifier is set to “0x24” to indicate that said elementary stream is a bitstream encoded with High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC).

47. The decoder of claim 43 , wherein the program map table further comprises one or more post-processing operation identifiers associated with said elementary stream, wherein said post-processing operation identifiers indicate post-processing operations that can operate on values decoded from said elementary stream to substantially reverse pre-processing operations performed by an encoder that encoded said elementary stream.

The decoder of claim 43 , wherein the program map table further comprises a standard dynamic range and/or standard color gamut core stream signifier that indicates whether values decoded from said elementary stream can be displayed on a standard dynamic range and/or standard color gamut display without post-processing operations that convert the values to a high dynamic range and/or wide color gamut.

49. A method of decoding a video included in a transport stream, the method comprising:

(a) receiving at a decoder said transport stream that includes a program map table;

(b) receiving at said decoder said program map table that indicates an elementary stream with stream type and elementary stream identifier;

(c) receiving at said decoder said elementary stream that indicates a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) stream by using a particular stream type value;

(d) receiving at said decoder an HEVC video descriptor associated with said HEVC stream signaling a presence or absence of a high dynamic range (HDR) content and a wide color gamut (WCG) content in said elementary stream;

(e) wherein said high dynamic range (HDR) content and said wide color gamut (WCG) content are signaled within a single syntax element that indicates the presence or absence of HDR and WCG content.

50. The method of claim 49 , further comprising performing at said decoder one or more post-processing operations on values decoded from said elementary stream to reconstruct high dynamic range and/or wide color gamut content.

51. The method of claim 50 , wherein said one or more post-processing operations are identified by supplemental enhancement information within said elementary stream.

52. The method of claim 50 , wherein said one or more post-processing operations are identified by video usability information within said elementary stream.
