Abstract

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for treating a tissue site are described. In some embodiments, the system may include a dressing, a negative-pressure source, and a communication device. The communication device may be coupled to the negative-pressure source and configured to transmit operational data of the negative pressure source to a remote location for monitoring usage of the system.

Claims (46)

1. A system for monitoring negative-pressure therapy, comprising:

a therapy unit, comprising:

a negative-pressure source configured to be fluidly coupled to a dressing;

a communication device operable to transmit operational data of the therapy unit; and

a receiving unit configured to receive the operational data; and

a processor configured to process the operational data to provide an output determination indicating whether a usage time of the therapy unit meets a threshold value in a first range, the processor further configured to update the first range to a second range based on a desired wound volume reduction,

wherein the threshold value corresponds to a compliant usage of the therapy unit that is configured to achieve the desired wound volume reduction.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the threshold value is in a range of about 17 hours/day to about 18 hours/day.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the threshold value is about 17 hours/day.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the threshold value is about 18 hours/day.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein in response to determining that the usage time of the negative-pressure source does not meet the threshold value, the processor is configured to initiate an automated user message to the communication device.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein in response to determining that the usage time of the negative-pressure source does not meet the threshold value, the processor is configured to initiate a text message to a phone number associated with a user of the therapy unit.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein in response to determining that the usage time of the negative-pressure source does not meet the threshold value, the processor is configured to initiate an email to an email address associated with a user of the therapy unit.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein in response to determining that the usage time of the negative-pressure source does not meet the threshold value, the processor is configured to initiate a telephone message to a phone number associated with a user of the therapy unit.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the threshold value is in a range of about 16 hours/day to about 19 hours/day.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to monitor an amount of wound exudate and update the first range to a third range based on the amount of wound exudate.

11. A method for monitoring negative-pressure therapy, comprising:

transmitting, from a communication device of a negative-pressure therapy unit, operational data;

receiving, at a receiving unit, the operational data;

processing, at a processor of the receiving unit, the operational data to provide an output determination of whether a usage time of the negative-pressure therapy unit meets a threshold value in a first range; and

update, with the processor, the first range to a second range based on a desired wound volume reduction,

wherein the threshold value corresponds to a compliant usage of the negative-pressure therapy unit that is configured to achieve the desired wound volume reduction.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the threshold value is in a range of about 17 hours/day to about 18 hours/day.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the threshold value is about 17 hours/day.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the threshold value is about 18 hours/day.

15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

initiating, at the processor of the receiving unit, an automated user message to the communication device if the usage time of the negative-pressure therapy unit does not meet the threshold value.

16. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

initiating, at the processor of the receiving unit, a text message to a phone number associated with a user of the negative-pressure therapy unit if the usage time of the negative-pressure therapy unit does not meet the threshold value.

17. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

initiating, at the processor of the receiving unit, an email to an email address associated with a user of the negative-pressure therapy unit if the usage time of the negative-pressure therapy unit does not meet the threshold value.

18. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

initiating, at the processor of the receiving unit, a telephone message to a phone number associated with a user of the negative-pressure therapy unit if the usage time of the negative-pressure therapy unit does not meet the threshold value.

19. A receiving unit for monitoring negative-pressure therapy, comprising:

a processor;

wherein the processor is configured to:

receive operational data transmitted from a communication device of a negative-pressure therapy unit,

process the operational data to provide an output determination of whether a usage time of the negative-pressure therapy unit meets a threshold value in a first range, and

update the first range to a second range based on a desired wound volume reduction,

wherein the threshold value corresponds to a compliant usage of the negative-pressure therapy unit that is configured to achieve the desired wound volume reduction.

20. The receiving unit of claim 19 , wherein:

in response to the usage time of the negative-pressure therapy unit being less than the threshold value, the processor is configured to initiate:

an automated user message to the communication device,

a text message to a phone number on record for a user of the negative-pressure therapy unit,

an email to an email address associated with the user, or

a telephone message to the phone number.
