Abstract

Embodiments described include systems and methods for generating and displaying live tiles for network applications. A small icon or thumbnail-like visual, referred to generally as a “live tile” or “tile”, may be provided via a user interface to a user, with the tile displaying key relevant information from the application or network resource, without the user having to launch the complete application or manually access the resource. The contents of the live tile may be periodically and automatically updated, including performing authentication processes necessary to access the application or resource.

Claims (30)

1 . A method comprising:

generating, by a client device, a user interface element comprising executable code identified from a document-object-model element of an application hosted on a remote computing device;

displaying, by the client device, the user interface element with updated data associated with the application and retrieved from the remote computing device; and

causing, by the client device, a second device to display the user interface element with updated data associated with the application and retrieved from the remote computing device

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the client device, the document-object-model element of the application from the remote computing device.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising receiving the document-object-model element of the application by a browser within a client application.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising extracting, by the client device, the executable code from the document-object-model element.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising retrieving, by the client device, the updated data from the remote computing device.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface element comprises a tile displaying the updated data.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising updating the display of the updated data on one of the client device or the second device using data retrieved from the remote computing device on a periodic basis.

8 . A client device comprising:

one or more processors, coupled to memory and configured to:

generate a user interface element comprising executable code identified from a document-object-model element of an application hosted on a remote computing device;

display, the user interface element with updated data associated with the application and retrieved from the remote computing device; and

cause a second device to display the user interface element with updated data associated with the application and retrieved from the remote computing device.

9 . The client device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to receive the document-object-model element of the application from the remote computing device.

10 . The client device of claim 9 , further comprising a browser within a client application to receive the document-object-model element of the application.

11 . The client device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to extract the executable code from the document-object-model element.

12 . The client device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to retrieve the updated data from the remote computing device.

13 . The client device of claim 8 , wherein the user interface element comprises a tile displaying the updated data.

14 . The client device of claim 8 , wherein the display of the updated data on one of the client device or the second device is updated using data retrieved from the remote computing device on a periodic basis.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

generate a user interface element comprising executable code identified from a document-object-model element of an application hosted on a remote computing device;

display the user interface element with updated data associated with the application and retrieved from the remote computing device; and

cause a second device to display the user interface element with updated data associated with the application and retrieved from the remote computing device.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions to configured to cause the one or more processors to receive, via a browser within a client application, the document-object-model element of the application from the remote computing device.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions to configured to cause the one or more processors to extract the executable code from the document-object-model element.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions to configured to cause the one or more processors to retrieve the updated data from the remote computing device.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the user interface element comprises a tile displaying the updated data.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the display of the updated data on one of the client device or the second device is updated using data retrieved from the remote computing device on a periodic basis.
