Abstract

The vehicle control system/method for adapting a control function based on a user profile may comprise: a gesture recognition module; a user profile module; a function control module; a processor; a non-transitory storage element coupled to the processor; encoded instructions stored in the non-transitory storage element, wherein the encoded instructions when implemented by the processor, configure the system to: identify a user; retrieve a user profile for the identified user; receive at a gesture recognition module, an input indicating a gesture from the user; identify a control function request corresponding to the gesture input; send a verification of the control function request; and receive at a function control module characteristics parsed from the user profile that effect the control function request by the user profile module to adapt a control function command for an adapted control function output by the function control module.

identifying, from among a plurality of user profiles accessible to the one or more processors and associated with a corresponding plurality of users, a first user profile of first a user located within a cabin of a vehicle;

detecting a first hand movement gesture performed by the first user while the first user is located within the cabin;

in response to detecting the first hand movement gesture, identifying, by accessing the first user profile, a first gesture preference specified by the first user and included in the first user profile, the first gesture preference indicating a first user-customized control command associated with the first hand movement gesture; and

generating a first control signal based on the first user-customized control command, the first control signal causing a first modification of a function or setting of a vehicle subsystem of the vehicle according to the first user-customized control command, wherein generation of a second control signal causing a second modification of a function or setting of the vehicle subsystem that differs from the first modification occurs in response to detecting performance of a second hand movement gesture by a second user when the second user is located within the cabin, the second hand movement gesture matching the first hand movement gesture, the second control signal determined by a second user-customized control command associated with the second hand movement gesture and indicated by a second gesture preference included in a second user profile of the second user, the second gesture preference differing from the first gesture preference.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations performed by the one or more processors further comprise:

in response to receiving an override associated with the first gesture preference, determining a standard control command associated with the first hand movement gesture, the standard control command differing from the first user-customized control command; and

generating a third control signal based on the standard control command, the third control signal causing a third modification of the function or setting of the vehicle subsystem according to the standard control command, the third modification differing from the first modification.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first hand movement gesture is a movement of a hand of the first user performed in three-dimensional space within a gesture capture area located within the cabin, and not performed on a touch sensitive device of the vehicle.

4. The system of claim 3 , further comprising one or more sensors located within the cabin of the vehicle, the one or more sensors configured to capture data associated with the movement of the hand of the first user within the gesture capture area, wherein the operations performed by the one or more processors further comprise determining the first hand movement gesture based on the captured data.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the one or more sensors include at least one of an optical sensor or an infrared sensor.

6. The system of claim 3 , further comprising one or more image sensors located within the cabin of the vehicle, the one or more image sensors configured to capture images of the movement of the hand of the first user within the gesture capture area, wherein the operations performed by the one or more processors further comprise determining the first hand movement gesture based on the captured images.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the operations performed by the one or more processors further comprise:

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations performed by the one or more processors further comprise:

determining a configuration of a hand of the first user;

determining a vector of movement of the hand; and

determining the first hand movement gesture by comparing the configuration and the vector with gesture characteristics stored in a database.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle subsystem is an infotainment system of the vehicle.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle subsystem is a climate control system of the vehicle.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle subsystem is a lighting control system of the vehicle.

12. A method, comprising:

identifying, from among a plurality of user profiles accessible to one or more processors and associated with a corresponding plurality of users, a first user profile of a first user located within a cabin of a vehicle;

detecting, via the one or more processors, a first hand movement gesture performed by the first user while the first user is located within the cabin;

in response to detecting the first hand movement gesture, identifying, by accessing the first user profile via the one or more processors, a first gesture preference specified by the first user and included in the first user profile, the first gesture preference indicating a first user-customized control command associated with the first hand movement gesture; and
