Abstract

A display device includes a display panel having a display region and a peripheral region, the display panel including a TFT substrate, a counter substrate fixed to the TFT substrate by seal material formed at the peripheral region, and liquid crystal interposed between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate. The TFT substrate includes an inorganic film and an organic film, with first column spacers being formed on the counter substrate. The organic film includes a first part which has an island-like shape formed at the peripheral region and a second part formed at the display region, and the seal material covers at least one of the first column spacers and the first part of the organic film, and is in contact with the inorganic film. The first part of the organic film is separated from the second part of the organic film of the organic film.

Claims (34)

1 . A liquid crystal display device comprising:

a liquid crystal display panel having a display region and a peripheral region around the display region, the display panel including a first substrate, a second substrate fixed to the first substrate by a seal material formed at the peripheral region, and liquid crystal interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate;

wherein the first substrate includes a plurality of insulation film;

wherein, in the peripheral region, the first substrate has a first protrusion, a second protrusion, and a third protrusion that have one of the plurality of insulation film;

wherein the seal material covers the first protrusion, the second protrusion, and the third protrusion in a plan view;

wherein the first protrusion is separated from the second protrusion and the third protrusion in a width direction of the seal material, and the second protrusion is separated from the third protrusion in the width direction of the seal material;

wherein the third protrusion is closer an end of the first substrate than the first protrusion and the second protrusion, and

wherein, in the plan view, the first protrusion, the second protrusion, and the third protrusion are staggered arrangement.

2 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the second substrate includes a spacer provided on the second substrate, and

the spacer is not disposed between the first protrusion and the second protrusion, and the second protrusion and the third protrusion.

3 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 , wherein

in the plan view, the spacer overlaps with the second protrusion.

4 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the plurality of insulation film includes an inorganic film and an organic film provided on the inorganic film, and

the second protrusion has the organic film.

5 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 , wherein

the first protrusion and the third protrusion do not have the organic film.

6 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 , wherein

the first protrusion and the third protrusion have the inorganic film, and

the first protrusion and the third protrusion further have a semiconductor film.

7 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein,

in an extending direction of the seal material, the first protrusion is arranged in plural.

8 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 7 , wherein

in an extending direction of the seal material, the second protrusion is arranged in plural.

9 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 8 , wherein

in an extending direction of the seal material, the third protrusion is arranged in plural.

10 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein

a width of the second protrusion in the width direction of the seal material is different from a width of the first protrusion in the width direction of the seal material.

11 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein

a width of the second protrusion in the width direction of the seal material is different from a width of the third protrusion in the width direction of the seal material.

12 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein

a width of the second protrusion in the width direction of the seal material is larger than a width of the first protrusion in the width direction of the seal material and a width of the third protrusion in the width direction of the seal material.

13 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the seal material is filled between the first protrusion and the second protrusion, and the second protrusion and the third protrusion.
