Abstract

A light detection and ranging system can have a spectral module connected to a light emitter and a detector as part of an optical sensor. The spectral module can be configured to adjust from a first wavelength of light to a second wavelength of light to classify a downrange target. The spectral module can customize a ratio of wavelengths over time to filter false positives in a field of view.

Claims (28)

1 . An apparatus comprising a controller connected to a light emitter and a detector as part of a light detection and ranging system, the controller configured to identify and eliminate one or more incorrect readings in a field of view of the emitter.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the incorrect reading is a false positive.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the incorrect reading is an erroneous photon.

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the incorrect reading is from a target positioned downrange from the emitter and detector.

5 . A method comprising:

connecting a controller to a light emitter and a detector as part of a light detection and ranging system;

sending a light beam from the emitter downrange towards at least one target;

identifying an incorrect reading in a field of view of the emitter; and

adjusting at least one operating parameter of the detector to compensate for the incorrect reading.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the controller identifies the incorrect reading in multiple sequential frames.

7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the controller identifies the incorrect reading by comparing a frame of photon readings with a threshold.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the threshold is dynamic over time.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the threshold is dynamic in response to detection of downrange targets.

10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the threshold is dynamic in response to a sensed oxygen saturation proximal the detector.

11 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the incorrect reading is identified by an artificial intelligence circuit of the controller.

12 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the incorrect reading is identified after application of an algorithm.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the algorithm is generated by the controller in response to logged activity during the detection of downrange targets.

14 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the controller adjusts from a first wavelength of light to a second wavelength of light to compensate for the incorrect reading.

15 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the controller classifies a downrange target after compensating for the incorrect reading.

16 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the controller adjusts a wavelength ratio over time to compensate for the incorrect reading.

17 . A method comprising:

connecting a controller to a light emitter and a detector as part of a light detection and ranging system;

sending a light beam from the emitter downrange towards at least one target;

identifying an incorrect reading in a field of view of the emitter; and

adjusting at least one operating parameter of the detector to prevent the incorrect reading from occurring again.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the at least one operating parameter is pulse width.

19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the at least one operating parameter is wavelength.

20 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the at least one operating parameter is light beam direction.
