Abstract

A feedback-based device for nucleation control is provided. A supercooling tray is sized to hold an object. Field generators include at least one magnet or transducer positioned with respect to the supercooling tray and a pair of electrodes located on opposite sides of the supercooling tray. One or more feedback sensors are configured to determine characteristics of the object at one or more spatial locations at multiple time points and each feedback sensor includes one of a reflectivity, electrical, acoustic, or hyperspectral sensor. A controller is configured to determine supercooling parameters based on the characteristics determined at the multiple time points and to control application of a field directed at the object by the field generators based on the supercooling parameter.

Claims (32)

1 . A feedback-based device, comprising:

a supercooling tray sized to hold an object;

field generators, comprising one or more of:

at least one magnet or transducer positioned with respect to the supercooling tray; and

a pair of electrodes located on opposite sides of the supercooling tray;

one or more feedback sensors configured to determine characteristics of the object at one or more spatial locations at multiple time points and comprising one or more of reflectivity, electrical, acoustic, and hyperspectral sensors; and

a controller configured to determine supercooling parameters based on the characteristics determined at the multiple time points and to control application of a field directed at the object by the field generators based on the supercooling parameters.

2 . A feedback-based device according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a housing comprising the supercooling tray, field generators, sensors, and controller.

3 . A feedback-based device according to claim 2 , wherein the housing comprises one of a standalone housing or an appliance.

4 . A feedback-based device according to claim 2 , further comprising at least one of:

a key pad affixed to the housing; and

a digital screen affixed to the housing.

5 . A feedback-based device according to claim 4 , wherein an identity of the object is provided via the key pad or digital screen.

6 . A feedback-based device according to claim 1 , wherein each feedback sensor comprises one of an imaging sensor, reflective sensor, electrocurrent sensor, chemical sensor, electric sensor, acoustic sensor, optical sensor, electrochemical sensor, thermal sensor, and hyperspectral imaging sensor.

7 . A feedback-based device according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a compressor configured to generate and distribute cool air to the object.

8 . A feedback-based device according to claim 7 , wherein the object is supercooled to a temperature between −1° C. and −20° C. via the compressor.

9 . A feedback-based device according to claim 1 , wherein the field generators further comprise at least one of wires, electromagnets, and 2D materials.

10 . A feedback-based device according to claim 1 , wherein the field affects mobility, physical movement or ability of phase-change of water molecules within the object.

11 . A feedback-based device according to claim 1 , wherein the controller communicates with the field generators and feedback sensors.

12 . A feedback-based device according to claim 11 , wherein the controller determines that the object is undergoing nucleation based on the communication with the feedback sensors.

13 . A feedback-based supercooling device according to claim 12 , wherein the electrical control unit determines new field parameters to stop the nucleation.

14 . A feedback-based supercooling device according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a camera to determine an identity of the object.

15 . A feedback-based supercooling device according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a wireless transceiver to provide data obtained from the feedback sensors and field generators for processing.

16 . A feedback-based supercooling device according to claim 1 , wherein one or more of the field generators can be adjusted manually or automatically based on characteristics determined at the multiple time points.

17 . A feedback-based supercooling device according to claim 1 , wherein the object is provided in packaging in the supercooling tray.

18 . A feedback-based supercooling device according to claim 1 , wherein the controller maintains a database of identities of objects.

19 . A feedback-based supercooling device according to claim 18 , wherein each object identity is associated with at least one of the characteristics for that object and the parameters for at least one of the field generators.

20 . A feedback-based supercooling device according to claim 1 , wherein the field generators reorient and induce vibration of water molecules in the object.
