Abstract

An example includes a segment collector to: access impression records indicative of media access segments, the media access segments including start times and end times corresponding to media accessed by a panelist; and determine ones of the impression records that include a watermark corresponding to a first media platform presenting the media; a segment classifier to convert a first one of the impression records including the watermark to a converted impression record; and combine the converted impression record corresponding to the first media platform and a second impression record corresponding to a second media platform; and a media creditor to generate audience measurement metrics based on the combined impression records.

Claims (40)

1. A system comprising a processor and a memory, the system configured to:

access impression records indicative of media access segments;

determine one of the impression records corresponds to a live segment of broadcast television media, the live segment having a first duration of a first number of minutes;

combine the one of the impression records corresponding to the live segment and a second impression record corresponding to a time-shifted media segment, the time-shifted media segment having a second duration of a second number of minutes, so as to generated a combined impression record representative of a combined viewing segment;

classify all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a live source or all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a time-shifted media source based on the first number of minutes and the second number of minutes; and

generate an audience metric based on the combined impression record.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system is configured to classify all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a live source when the first number of minutes is greater than the second number of minutes.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein system is configured to classify all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a time-shifted media source when the second number of minutes is greater than the first number of minutes.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system is configured to detect a pause event corresponding to the second impression record to determine the second impression record corresponds to the time-shifted media segment.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the one of the impression records corresponding to the live segment includes a start time corresponding to the broadcast television media accessed by a panelist, and

system is configured to assign the time-shifted media source to the start time when the second number of minutes is greater than the first number of minutes.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the second impression record includes a start time corresponding to time-shifted media accessed by a panelist, and

the system is configured to assign the live source to the start time when the first number of minutes is greater than the second number of minutes.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system is configured to generate a report including the audience metric.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the time-shifted media segment is a digital video recorder (DVR) segment.

9. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions to cause a computing system to:

combine a first impression record corresponding to a live segment and a second impression record corresponding to a time-shifted media segment so as to generate a combined impression record representative of a combined viewing segment, the live segment having a first duration of a first number of minutes, the time-shifted media segment having a second duration of a second number of minutes;

classify all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a live source or all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a time-shifted media source based on the first number of minutes and the second number of minutes; and

generate an audience metric based on the combined impression record.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the instructions are to cause the computing system to classify all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a live source when the first number of minutes is greater than the second number of minutes.

11. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the instructions are to cause the computing system to classify all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a time-shifted media source when the second number of minutes is greater than the first number of minutes.

12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the instructions are to cause the computing system to detect a pause event corresponding to the second impression record to determine the second impression record corresponds to the time-shifted media segment.

13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein:

the first impression record corresponding to the live segment includes a start time corresponding to broadcast television media accessed by a panelist, and

the instructions to cause the computing system to assign the time-shifted media source to the start time when the second number of minutes is greater than the first number of minutes.

14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein:

the second impression record includes a start time corresponding to time-shifted media accessed by a panelist, and

the instructions to cause the computing system to assign the live source to the start time when the first number of minutes is greater than the second number of minutes.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the instructions are to cause the computing system to generate a report including the audience metric.

16. A method comprising:

combining, by a computing system, a first impression record corresponding to a live segment and a second impression record corresponding to a time-shifted media segment so as to generate a combined impression record representative of a combined viewing segment, the live segment having a first duration of a first number of minutes, the time-shifted media segment having a second duration of a second number of minutes;

classifying, by the computing system, all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a live source or all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a time-shifted media source based on the first number of minutes and the second number of minutes; and

generating, by the computing system, an audience metric based on the combined impression record.

17. The method of claim 16 , further including classifying all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a live source when the first number of minutes is greater than the second number of minutes.

18. The method of claim 16 , further including classifying all of the combined viewing segment as attributed to a time-shifted media source when the second number of minutes is greater than the first number of minutes.

19. The method of claim 16 , further including classifying the combined viewing segment as attributed to a live source or a time-shifted media source when the first number of minutes is equal to the second number of minutes.

20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the first impression record corresponding to the live segment includes a start time corresponding to broadcast television media accessed by a panelist, the method further including assigning the time-shifted media source to the start time when the second number of minutes is greater than the first number of minutes.

21. The method of claim 16 , wherein the second impression record includes a start time corresponding to time-shifted media accessed by a panelist, the method further including assigning the live source to the start time when the first number of minutes is greater than the second number of minutes.
