Abstract

A method, system, and computer program products are provided for updating the location of a cursor in a display window on a trading screen when certain events occurs. In a preferred embodiment, as market conditions change, the market information may be rearranged on a screen. To reduce the chances of missing a market opportunity by sending orders or managing them, the cursor moves in association with the market information such that the cursor appears fixed to the market information until a user moves the pointer device.

Claims (33)

1 . (canceled)

2 . A method comprising:

in response to receiving a user input specifying a cursor position adjacent to a value axis displayed in a user interface, determining a relative position between the cursor position associated with the user input device and a first location in the user interface defined along the value axis;

initiating a trade order with a price corresponding to the first location defined along the value axis;

in response to receiving a market update from an electronic exchange in communication with the user interface, updating the value axis to reflect the received market update, wherein the price is dynamically repositioned from the first location to a second location along the value axis;

repositioning within the user interface the cursor position adjacent to the value axis displayed in the user interface to reflect the movement of the price to the second location, wherein the relative position between the cursor position associated with the user input device and the second location defined along the value axis is maintained; and

receiving a second user input to submit the trade order with the price to the electronic exchange.

3 . The method of claim 2 where the first location is different from the second location.

4 . The method of claim 2 wherein the user interface is configured to submit the trade order at the price.

5 . The method of claim 2 where the value axis further comprises a plurality of locations.

6 . The method of claim 5 where each location of the plurality of locations is configured to receive a user input to send trade orders to the electronic exchange.

7 . The method of claim 2 where the second user input comprises any one of a single-click of a mouse button and a double-click of the mouse button.

8 . The method of claim 2 wherein the user interface is configured to display an inside market at designated locations of the value axis.

9 . The method of claim 2 wherein the user interface is configured to display along the value axis any of a last trade price for a tradeable object, a best bid price for the tradeable object, a best ask price for the tradeable object, and combinations thereof.

10 . The method of claim 2 ,

wherein the user interface is configured to receive a third user input to move the cursor to a new location having a new price; and

wherein the user interface is configured to, in response to the third user input, change the price of the trade order to the new price.

11 . A computer readable medium having stored therein instructions executable by a processor, including instructions executable to:

in response to receiving a user input specifying a cursor position adjacent to a value axis displayed in a user interface, determine a relative position between the cursor position associated with the user input device and a first location in the user interface defined along the value axis;

initiate a trade order with a price corresponding to the first location defined along the value axis;

in response to receiving a market update from an electronic exchange in communication with the user interface, update the value axis to reflect the received market update, wherein the price is dynamically repositioned from the first location to a second location along the value axis;

reposition within the user interface the cursor position adjacent to the value axis displayed in the user interface to reflect the movement of the price to the second location, wherein the relative position between the cursor position associated with the user input device and the second location defined along the value axis is maintained; and

receive a second user input to submit the trade order with the price to the electronic exchange.

12 . The computer readable medium of claim 11 where the first location is different from the second location.

13 . The computer readable medium of claim 11 wherein the user interface is configured to submit the trade order at the price.

14 . The computer readable medium of claim 11 where the value axis further comprises a plurality of locations.

15 . The computer readable medium of claim 14 where each location of the plurality of locations is configured to receive a user input to send trade orders to the electronic exchange.

16 . The computer readable medium of claim 11 where the second user input comprises any one of a single-click of a mouse button and a double-click of the mouse button.

17 . The computer readable medium of claim 11 wherein the user interface is configured to display an inside market at designated locations of the value axis.

18 . The computer readable medium of claim 11 wherein the user interface is configured to display along the value axis any of a last trade price for a tradeable object, a best bid price for the tradeable object, a best ask price for the tradeable object, and combinations thereof.

19 . The computer readable medium of claim 11 ,

wherein user interface is configured to receive a third user input to move the cursor to a new location having a new price; and

wherein the user interface is configured to, in response to the third user input, change the price of the trade order to the new price.
