Abstract

Aspects of the invention can be directed to a shoe including an outsole portion; an upper portion connected to the outsole portion; and an insole core portion disposed within the outsole portion. The insole core portion can include a single compound including: styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymer (SEBS), ethyl vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) in the range of 17% to 27% by weight; and polyolefin elastomer (POE) in the range of 6% to 16% by weight. The single compound can additionally include a rubber which is a styrenic block copolymer (SBC) consisting of polystyrene blocks and rubber blocks. The insole core portion can also have a dry skid resistance in the range of u 0.30 to u 0.80, and wet skid resistance in the range of u 0.35 to u 0.60, determined according to F2913-2011, as well as other characteristics.

Claims (34)

1 . A shoe, comprising:

an outsole portion;

an upper portion connected to the outsole portion; and

an insole core portion disposed within the outsole portion,

wherein the insole core portion is composed of a single compound including:

styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymer (SEGS),

ethyl vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) in the range of 17% to 27% by weight; and

polyolefin elastomer (POE) in the range of 6% to 16% by weight,

and wherein the single compound additionally comprises a rubber which is a styrenic block copolymer (SBC) consisting of polystyrene blocks and rubber blocks, and

wherein the insole core portion has at least one of the following:

(i) a dry skid resistance in the range of u 0.30 to u 0.80, and wet skid resistance in the range of u 0.35 to u 0.60, determined according to F2913-2011,

(ii) a Shore A hardness in the range of 20H to 35H and a Shore C hardness in the range of 35H to 48H, determined according to ASTM D2240,

(iii) a compression set of not more than 30%, determined according to SATRA TM156:2002,620n,

(iv) a density in the range of 0.2 to 0.7 mg per cubic meter (mg/m 3 ), determined according to ASTM D297, and

(v) an abrasion resistance in the range of about 0.1 to about 0.5 g after 10,000 cycles, determined according to ASTM D3886-99.

2 . The shoe of claim 1 , wherein the single compound includes:

EVA in the range of 20% to 24% by weight; and

POE in the range of 9% to 13% by weight.

3 . The shoe of claim 2 , wherein the single compound includes:

EVA 22% by weight; and

POE 11% by weight.

4 . The shoe of claim 1 , wherein the single compound further includes:

a bridging agent in the range of 0% to 2 by weight %.

4 . The shoe of claim 4 , wherein the single compound further includes a foaming agent in the range of 0% to 4% by weight.

6 . The shoe of claim 1 , wherein the insole core portion is formed by a single shot injection molding process.

7 . The shoe of claim 1 , wherein the insole core portion is formed by a two step compression molding process.

8 . The shoe of claim 1 , wherein the outsole portion formed from a durable synthetic rubber.

9 . The shoe of claim 1 , wherein the upper portion is formed from at least one of the group including leather, nylon and canvas.

10 . The shoe of claim 1 ,

wherein the insole core portion includes:

an insole peripheral wall extending upward from a peripheral edge of a top surface of the insole core portion; and

a cushioning insole arch portion, and

the insole core portion is shaped to provide a comfortable fit for a user's foot that is placed on the cushioning insole arch portion and within the peripheral wall.

11 . The shoe of claim 1 , wherein the upper portion is connected to the outsole portion via gluing.
