Abstract

Systems and methods for supporting private networks using a DAS are provided. In one example, a method for supporting a private network with a DAS includes determining whether a private network is activated and connected to the DAS. The method further includes determining one or more paths of the DAS impacted by the private network. The method further includes receiving an indication of available resources and capability information for one or more components in the DAS. The method further includes dedicating resources of the DAS to the private network based on requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the DAS. The method further includes utilizing the resources of the DAS dedicated to the private network for traffic having an identifier corresponding to the private network.

Claims (60)

1 . A method for supporting a private network with a distributed antenna system, the method comprising:

determining whether a private network is activated and connected to the distributed antenna system;

determining one or more paths of the distributed antenna system impacted by the private network;

receiving an indication of available resources and capability information for one or more components in the distributed antenna system;

dedicating resources of the distributed antenna system to the private network based on requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system; and

utilizing the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the private network for traffic having an identifier corresponding to the private network.

The method of claim 1 , wherein determining one or more paths of the distributed antenna system impacted by the private network is based on Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) information for the private network, topology information for the distributed antenna system, location information for nodes of the distributed antenna system, and/or characteristics of one or more flows supported by the distributed antenna system.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a location for one or more core network entities and one or more base station entities for the private network that will reduce latency for user-plane data for the private network.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein determining the location for one or more core network entities and the one or more base station entities for the private network includes:

determining a location for one or more user plane functions (UPFs) for the private network;

determining a location for one or more central units (CUs) for the private network; and/or

determining a location for one or more distributed units (DUs) for the private network.

The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining one or more split options to enable for the private network based on the requirements of the private network, the indication of available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system, and the capability information for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the distributed antenna system includes a master unit communicatively coupled to and located remotely from a plurality of radio units, wherein the master unit is communicatively coupled to the plurality of radio units via one or more switches and one or more intermediary combining nodes.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein dedicating resources of the distributed antenna system to the private network based on the requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system includes:

instantiating one or more network functions for the private network at the master unit and/or at the one or more intermediary combining nodes;

selecting physical hardware to instantiate the one or more network functions for the private network; and/or

determining dimensioning of a transport network of the distributed antenna system for the one or more switches to support the requirements for the private network.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein dedicating resources of the distributed antenna system to the private network based on requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system includes:

dedicating processing resources, memory, storage, and/or network resources of the master unit, the one or more intermediary combining nodes, and the plurality of radio units to the private network; and

dedicating network resources of the one or more switches to the private network.

The method of claim 1 , wherein dedicating resources of the distributed antenna system to the private network based on the requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system includes associating a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) identifier of the private network with the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the private network;

wherein utilizing the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the private network for traffic having an identifier corresponding to the private network includes routing traffic that includes an identifier corresponding to the PLMN identifier of the private network to the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the private network.

10 . A system, comprising:

a master unit of a distributed antenna system, wherein the master unit is configured to be coupled to one or more base station entities of a private network;

a plurality of radio units of the distributed antenna system communicatively coupled to the master unit, wherein the plurality of radio units is located remotely from the master unit; and

at least one controller communicatively coupled to the master unit, wherein the at least one controller is configured to:

determine whether the private network is activated and connected to the distributed antenna system;

determine one or more paths of the distributed antenna system impacted by the private network;

receive an indication of available resources and capability information for one or more components in the distributed antenna system; and

dedicate resources of the distributed antenna system to the private network based on requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system;

wherein the system is configured to utilize the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the private network for traffic having an identifier corresponding to the private network.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the at least one controller is further configured to determine a location for one or more core network entities and the one or more base station entities for the private network that will reduce latency for user-plane data for the private network.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least one controller is configured to:

determine a location for one or more user plane functions (UPFs) for the private network;

determine a location for one or more central units (CUs) for the private network; and/or

determine a location for one or more distributed units (DUs) for the private network.

The system of claim 10 , wherein the at least one controller is further configured to determine one or more split options to enable for the private network based on the requirements of the private network, the indication of available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system, and the capability information for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system.

The system of claim 10 , wherein the at least one controller is configured to determine the one or more paths of the distributed antenna system impacted by the private network includes using topology information for the distributed antenna system, location information for nodes of the distributed antenna system, and characteristics of one or more flows supported by the distributed antenna system.

15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the master unit is communicatively coupled to the plurality of radio units via one or more switches and one or more intermediary combining nodes.

The system of claim 15 , wherein the at least one controller is configured to dedicate resources of the distributed antenna system to the private network based on requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system by:

instantiating one or more network functions for the private network at the master unit and/or at the one or more intermediary combining nodes;

selecting physical hardware to instantiate the one or more network functions for the private network; and/or

determining dimensioning of a transport network of the distributed antenna system to support the requirements for the private network.

The system of claim 15 , wherein the at least one controller is configured to dedicate resources of the distributed antenna system to the private network based on requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system by:

dedicating processing resources, memory, storage, and/or network resources of the master unit, the one or more intermediary combining nodes, and the plurality of radio units to the private network; and

dedicating network resources of the one or more switches to the private network.

The system of claim 10 , wherein the at least one controller is configured to dedicate resources of the distributed antenna system to the private network based on requirements of the private network and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system by associating a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) identifier of the private network with the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the private network;

wherein the system is configured to utilize the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the private network for traffic having an identifier corresponding to the private network by routing traffic that includes the identifier corresponding to the PLMN identifier for the private network to the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the private network.

19 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the master unit is communicatively coupled to one or more base station entities of a second network different from the private network;

wherein the plurality of radio units includes a first set of radio units and a second set of radio units, the first set of radio units being dedicated to the private network;

wherein the master unit is configured to monitor signals from the one or more base station entities of the private network and signals from the one or more base station entities of the second network for the identifier corresponding to the private network;

wherein the master unit is configured to route the signals from the one or more base station entities of the private network having the identifier corresponding to the private network to the first set of radio units;

wherein the master unit is configured to route the signals having the identifier corresponding to the private network to the first set of radio units; and

wherein the master unit is configured to route the signals not having the identifier corresponding to the private network to the second set of radio units.

20 . The system of claim 10 , wherein one or more components of the system are further configured to:

determine whether a first network slice is activated and connected to the distributed antenna system;

determine one or more paths of the distributed antenna system impacted by the first network slice;

dedicate resources of the distributed antenna system to the first network slice based on requirements of the first network slice and the available resources for the one or more components of the distributed antenna system; and

utilize the resources of the distributed antenna system dedicated to the first network slice for traffic corresponding to the first network slice.
