SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ESTIMATING FOODSTUFF COMPLETION TIME
A system and method for estimating a time to foodstuff completion can include receiving a measured foodstuff parameter, determining a current foodstuff state based on: a previous foodstuff state and the measured foodstuff parameter, selecting a foodstuff parameter curve based on the current foodstuff state, determining an estimated time to completion using the foodstuff parameter curve.
1 . A cooking system comprising:
a cooking cavity;
a sensor; and
a processing system, wherein the processing system is configured to:
receive, via the sensor, a foodstuff parameter associated with a food located in the cooking cavity;
determine, based on the received foodstuff parameter and using a state estimator, a foodstuff state;
determine a temperature curve associated with the food located in the cooking cavity;
calculate, based on the foodstuff state, based on a prior foodstuff state, and based on the determined temperature curve, an estimated time until cooking is completed; and
cause the estimated time to be displayed.
2 . The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein the temperature curve is associated with a rate of change for the food.
3 . The cooking system of claim 1 , further comprising a heating element configured to heat the food located in the cooking cavity.
4 . The cooking system of claim 3 , further comprising a housing that defines the cooking cavity, wherein the heating element and the processing system are mounted to the housing.
5 . The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor comprises at least one of:
a thermometer;
an optical sensor;
an acoustic sensor;
a spectroscopic sensor;
an electronic nose; or
a pressure sensor.
6 . The cooking system of claim 1 , further comprising:
a user interface configured to receive an indication of the food located in the cooking cavity.
7 . The cooking system of claim 1 , further comprising:
a user interface configured to display the estimated time.
8 . The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein the processing system is configured to cause the estimated time to be displayed by transmitting the estimated time until cooking is completed to a user device, wherein the user device is configured to display the estimated time.
9 . The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein the cooking system comprises at least one of:
an oven;
a range;
a microwave;
a pressure cooker;
a rotisserie;
a fryer;
a toaster;
a grill; or
a sous vide.
10 . The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein the state estimator comprises at least one of:
a Kalman filter;
an extended Kalman filter;
a modified Kalman filter;
a particle filter;
a Monte Carlo simulator;
a Benes filter; or
a hidden Markov model.
11 . A method comprising:
receiving, via a sensor associated with a cooking system, a foodstuff parameter associated with a food located in a cooking cavity of the cooking system;
determining, based on the received foodstuff parameter and using a state estimator, a foodstuff state;
determining a temperature curve associated with the food located in the cooking cavity;
calculating, based on the foodstuff state, based on a prior foodstuff state, and based on the determined temperature curve, an estimated time until cooking is completed; and
causing the estimated time to be displayed.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the temperature curve is associated with a rate of change for the food.
13 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
receiving, via a user interface associated with the cooking system, an indication of the food located in the cooking cavity.
14 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
displaying, via a user interface associated with the cooking system, the estimated time.
15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein causing the estimated time to be displayed further comprises transmitting, to a user device, the estimated time until cooking is completed, wherein the user device is configured to display the estimated time.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the user device is configured to display the estimated time via a mobile application.
17 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
receiving, via the sensor, a second foodstuff parameter associated with the food;
determining, based on the received foodstuff parameter and using the state estimator, a second foodstuff state;
updating, based on the second foodstuff state, based on the foodstuff state, and based on the determined temperature curve, an updated estimated time until cooking is completed; and
causing the updated estimated time to be displayed.
18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the estimated time until cooking is completed is updated periodically.
19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the cooking system comprises at least one of:
an oven;
a range;
a microwave;
a pressure cooker;
a rotisserie;
a fryer;
a toaster;
a grill; or
a sous vide.
20 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the state estimator comprises at least one of:
a Kalman filter;
an extended Kalman filter;
a modified Kalman filter;
a particle filter;
a Monte Carlo simulator;
a Benes filter; or
a hidden Markov model.
