UPDATING MENUS BASED ON PREDICTED EFFICIENCIES
Notifying customers of available efficiencies via updates to electronic menus, personal notifications, etc. is described herein. As an example, a computing system can receive a first request indicating that an item that is offered for sale by a merchant that has been requested by a customer and can determine an efficiency associated with combining the first request with a second request. Such an efficiency, for example, can comprise preparing multiple items together instead of individually. The computing system can update the electronic menu, in near real-time and based at least partly on determining the efficiency associated with combining the first request and the second request.
1 . A system comprising:
one or more processors; and
one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions executable by the one or more processors, wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:
causing, by one or more computing devices of a service provider, an electronic menu to be presented via one or more merchant computing devices of a merchant;
receiving, by the one or more computing devices and from at least one merchant computing device of the one or more merchant computing devices, a first request indicating that a first instance of a first item of a plurality of items offered for sale by the merchant has been requested by a customer;
determining, by the one or more computing devices, that an efficiency associated with preparing or producing a second item offered for sale by the merchant or a second instance of the first item in a batch with the first instance of the first item is above a threshold efficiency;
responsive at least in part on receiving the first request and determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency, dynamically updating, by the one or more computing devices, the electronic menu to an updated electronic menu, wherein the updated electronic menu includes a promotion for the second item or the second instance of the first item; and
causing, by the one or more computing devices, the updated electronic menu to be presented via the one or more merchant computing devices.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the efficiency comprises at least one of a cost savings, a time savings, a reduction in spoilage, or an increase in customer satisfaction.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency comprises determining a reduction in at least one of a preparation time, a required ingredient, a quantity of employees, a cost, or spoilage.
4 . The system of claim 1 ,
wherein determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency is based at least in part on inventory data maintained in an inventory database associated with the merchant and maintained by the service provider, and
wherein the inventory data comprises, for an individual item of the plurality of items, item description, item price, item availability, item count, item portion size, item portion count, item discount, item location, item image, or item characteristic.
5 . The system of claim 1 , the acts further comprising:
receiving, by the one or more computing devices, a second request indicating that the second item of the first item or the second instance of the first item has been requested;
determining, by the one or more computing devices, that the promotion is no longer available based at least in part on one of a lapse of a period or a lack of inventory of the second item or the second instance of the first item;
responsive at least in part to determining that the promotion is no longer available, dynamically updating, by the one or more computing devices, the updated electronic menu to a second updated electronic menu, wherein the second updated electronic menu lacks the promotion; and
causing, by the one or more computing devices, the second updated electronic menu to be presented via the one or more merchant computing devices.
6 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
causing, by one or more computing devices of a service provider, an electronic menu to be presented via at least one of (1) one or more merchant computing devices of a merchant or (2) one or more customer computing devices corresponding to one or more customers of the merchant;
receiving, by the one or more computing devices and from at least one merchant computing device or at least one customer computing device, a first request indicating that a first instance of a first item of a plurality of items offered for sale by the merchant has been requested by a customer;
determining, by the one or more computing devices, that an efficiency associated with preparing or producing a second item offered for sale by the merchant or a second instance of the first item in a batch with the first instance of the first item is above a threshold efficiency;
responsive at least in part on receiving the first request and determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency, dynamically updating, by the one or more computing devices, the electronic menu to an updated electronic menu, wherein the updated electronic menu includes a promotion for the second item or the second instance of the first item; and
causing, by the one or more computing devices, the updated electronic menu to be presented via the at least one of the one or more merchant computing devices or the one or more customer computing devices.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the efficiency comprises at least one of a cost savings, a time savings, a reduction in spoilage, or an increase in customer satisfaction.
8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency comprises determining a reduction in at least one of a preparation time, a required ingredient, a quantity of employees, a cost, or spoilage.
9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 ,
wherein determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency is based at least in part on inventory data maintained in an inventory database associated with the merchant and maintained by the service provider, and
wherein the inventory data comprises, for an individual item of the plurality of items, item description, item price, item availability, item count, item portion size, item portion count, item discount, item location, item image, or item characteristic.
10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency comprises identifying the second item or the second instance based at least in part on a metric generated by a machine-learning mechanism being above a threshold metric, wherein the machine-learning mechanism is trained with training data comprising transaction data associated with item sharing by a plurality of customers in purchases from a plurality of merchants.
11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the promotion comprises a reduced cost for at least one of the first instance of the first item, the second instance of the first item, or the second item.
12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein at least one merchant device is an electronic board that is viewable by a plurality of customers.
13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , further comprising:
determining, by the one or more computing devices, a plurality of target customers that are likely to be interested in ordering the second item or the second instance of the first item, wherein the determining the plurality of target customers is based at least in part on analyzing customer data stored in a database associated with the service provider using a machine-trained model,
wherein causing the updated electronic menu to be presented comprises causing the updated electronic menu to be presented via customer computing devices of the plurality of target customers.
14 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , further comprising:
receiving, by the one or more computing devices, a second request indicating that the second item or the second instance of the first item has been requested;
determining, by the one or more computing devices, that the promotion is no longer available based at least in part on one of a lapse of a time or a lack of inventory of the second item or the second instance of the first item;
responsive at least in part to determining that the promotion is no longer available, dynamically updating, by the one or more computing devices, the updated electronic menu to a second updated electronic menu, wherein the second updated electronic menu lacks the promotion; and
causing, by the one or more computing devices, the second updated electronic menu to be presented via the at least one of the one or more merchant computing devices or the one or more customer computing devices.
15 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , further comprising:
causing, by the one or more computing devices, an alert associated with availability of the promotion to be presented via at least one of the one or more merchant computing devices or the one or more customer computing devices.
16 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions executable by one or more processors that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:
causing, by one or more computing devices of a service provider, an electronic menu to be presented via one or more customer computing devices corresponding to one or more customers of a merchant;
receiving, by the one or more computing devices and from at least one customer computing device of the one or more customer computing devices, a first request indicating that a first instance of a first item of a plurality of items offered for sale by the merchant has been requested by a customer;
determining, by the one or more computing devices, that an efficiency associated with preparing or producing a second item offered for sale by the merchant or a second instance of the first item in a batch with the first instance of the first item is above a threshold efficiency;
responsive at least in part on receiving the first request and determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency, dynamically updating, by the one or more computing devices, the electronic menu to an updated electronic menu, wherein the updated electronic menu includes a promotion for the second item or the second instance of the first item; and
causing, by the one or more computing devices, the updated electronic menu to be presented via the one or more customer computing devices.
17 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein the efficiency comprises at least one of a cost savings, a time savings, a reduction in spoilage, or an increase in customer satisfaction.
18 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency comprises determining a reduction in at least one of a preparation time, a required ingredient, a quantity of employees, a cost, or spoilage.
19 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein determining that the efficiency is above the threshold efficiency comprises identifying the second item or the second instance based at least in part on a metric generated by a machine-learning mechanism being above a threshold metric, wherein the machine-learning mechanism is trained with training data comprising transaction data associated with item sharing by a plurality of customers in purchases from a plurality of merchants.
20 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , the acts further comprising:
receiving, by the one or more computing devices, a second request indicating that the second item or the second instance of the first item has been requested;
determining, by the one or more computing devices, that the promotion is no longer available based at least in part on one of a lapse of a time period or a lack of inventory of the second item or the second instance of the first item;
responsive at least in part to determining that the promotion is no longer available, dynamically updating, by the one or more computing devices, the updated electronic menu to a second updated electronic menu, wherein the second updated electronic menu lacks the promotion; and
causing, by the one or more computing devices, the second updated electronic menu to be presented via the one or more customer computing devices.
