Abstract

In examples, a payment service can identify a first merchant and a second merchant as complementary merchants based on transaction data associated with a plurality of merchants. First transaction data for a first transaction between a first merchant is received, which includes a payment card number. A payment can be processed and apportioned between the first merchant and a second merchant based on an agreement between them. A receipt user interface can be generated that includes representations of the merchants and a promotion for a second transaction between the customer and a second merchant, based on a transaction history of the customer. The payment service can receive second transaction data from the second transaction and process a payment for the second transaction based on the promotion.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising causing presentation of the receipt user interface via an email to the customer.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising causing presentation of the receipt user interface via a mobile application associated with the first merchant and executing on a customer device of the customer.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transaction data for an individual transaction of the transactions further comprises at least one of:

an item description of an item purchased;

a service description of a service purchased;

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein interaction with the receipt user interface causes presentation of a web page associated with the second merchant or a mobile application associated with the second merchant executing on a customer device of the customer, and wherein the second transaction is initiated via the web page or the mobile application, respectively.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the receipt user interface for the first transaction further includes a third representation of a third merchant.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second transaction data includes the payment card number.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the first merchant and the second merchant as complementary merchants is based at least in part on an indication that the first merchant and the second merchant are willing to participate in cross-merchant promotions.

11 . A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions executable by the one or more processors, wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:

receiving, by the payment service, first transaction data for a first transaction associated with the first merchant and a customer, wherein the first transaction data includes a payment card number of a payment card offered for payment in the first transaction;

processing a first payment associated with the first transaction;

apportioning, by the payment service, the first payment between the first merchant and the second merchant according to an agreement between the first merchant and the second merchant;

generating, by the payment service and based at least in part on the payment card number, a receipt user interface for the first transaction that includes:

a first representation of the first merchant and a second representation of the second merchant; and

at least one promotion for a second transaction between the customer and the second merchant based on a transaction history of the customer associated with the payment card number;

receiving, by the payment service, second transaction data for the second transaction between the second merchant and the customer; and

13 . The system of claim 11 , the acts further comprising causing presentation of the receipt user interface via a mobile application associated with the first merchant and executing on a customer device of the customer.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first transaction is performed via an application associated with the first merchant and executing on a customer device of the customer.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first transaction is performed at a brick-and-mortar store of the first merchant.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein interaction with the receipt user interface causes presentation of a web page associated with the second merchant or a mobile application associated with the second merchant executing on a customer device of the customer, and wherein the second transaction is initiated via the web page or the mobile application, respectively.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the receipt user interface for the first transaction further includes a third representation of a third merchant.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the second transaction data includes the payment card number.

19 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media to perform operations comprising:

based at least in part on transaction data associated with transactions of a plurality of merchants, identifying, by a payment service, a first merchant and a second merchant of the plurality of merchants as complementary merchants;

receiving, by the payment service, first transaction data for a first transaction associated with the first merchant and a customer, wherein the first transaction data includes a payment card number of a payment card offered for payment in the first transaction;
