Abstract

Claims (46)

1 . A device comprising:

a processor; and

a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions, that when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

capture:

data associated with a financial institution account,

user authentication data associated with the financial institution account, and

data associated with a fund transfer amount,

receive data associated with a financial institution confirmation of an availability of the fund transfer amount in the financial institution account,

receive data associated with a cashless wagering account which is distinct from any account of a gaming establishment patron management system and authentication data associated with the cashless wagering account, and

communicate, via a network, to a server of a cashless wagering system, each of the data associated with the cashless wagering account, the authentication data associated with the cashless wagering account and the data associated with the fund transfer amount, wherein a balance of the cashless wagering account is modified based on the fund transfer amount.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the data associated with the cashless wagering account and the authentication data associated with the cashless wagering account is received from a mobile device.

3 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the data is received from the mobile device following the mobile device engaging a wireless interface of the device.

4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the balance of the cashless wagering account is modified based on the fund transfer amount independent of any transfer of any physical forms of currency.

5 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising a housing and a card reader supported by the housing, wherein the data associated with the financial institution account is captured in association with a financial institution card.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the user authentication data associated with the financial institution account is captured in association with a financial institution personal identification number.

7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the data associated with the financial institution confirmation of the availability of the fund transfer amount in the financial institution account is received via a financial institution network.

8 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising a housing and a vault supported by the housing, wherein the vault is configured to store an amount of monetary currency.

9 . A device comprising:

a housing;

a card reader supported by the housing;

an input device supported by the housing;

a wireless interface supported by the housing;

a processor supported by the housing; and

a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions, that when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

capture, via the card reader, data associated with a financial institution account from a financial institution card,

receive, via at least one of the input device and the wireless interface, user authentication data associated with the financial institution account,

receive, via at least one of the input device and the wireless interface, data associated with an amount of funds, and

following a receipt, via a financial institution network and from a server of a financial institution that maintains the financial institution account, of data associated with a financial institution confirmation of an availability of the amount of funds in the financial institution account, communicate, to a server of a cashless wagering system and via a cashless wagering system application programming interface, data that results in a modification, based on the amount of funds, of a balance of a cashless wagering account which is distinct from any account of a gaming establishment patron management system, wherein following the modification of the balance of the cashless wagering account, at least part of the amount of funds are transferrable, via a gaming establishment data network, to a credit balance of an electronic gaming machine operating independent of the device.

10 . The device of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the user authentication data and the data associated with the amount of funds is received, via the wireless interface, from a mobile device.

11 . The device of claim 10 , wherein the electronic gaming machine is identified in association with a camera of the mobile device capturing a quick response code.

12 . The device of claim 10 , wherein data associated with the cashless wagering account is received, via the wireless interface, from the mobile device.

13 . A method of operating a device, the method comprising:

capturing, via a processor:

data associated with a financial institution account,

user authentication data associated with the financial institution account, and

data associated with a fund transfer amount,

receiving data associated with a financial institution confirmation of an availability of the fund transfer amount in the financial institution account,

receiving data associated with a cashless wagering account which is distinct from any account of a gaming establishment patron management system and authentication data associated with the cashless wagering account, and

communicating, via a network, to a server of a cashless wagering system, each of the data associated with the cashless wagering account, the authentication data associated with the cashless wagering account and the data associated with the fund transfer amount, wherein a balance of the cashless wagering account is modified based on the fund transfer amount.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the data associated with the cashless wagering account and the authentication data associated with the cashless wagering account is received from a mobile device.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the data is received from the mobile device following the mobile device engaging a wireless interface of the device.

16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the balance of the cashless wagering account is modified based on the fund transfer amount independent of any transfer of any physical forms of currency.

17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the data associated with the financial institution account is captured, via a card reader supported by a housing of the device, in association with a financial institution card.

18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the user authentication data associated with the financial institution account is captured in association with a financial institution personal identification number.

19 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the data associated with the financial institution confirmation of the availability of the fund transfer amount in the financial institution account is received via a financial institution network.

20 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising storing, in a vault supported by a housing of the device, an amount of monetary currency.
