Abstract

A non-mammalian transfer factor, compositions including the non-mammalian transfer factor, and methods for generating and preparing the non-mammalian transfer factor. The non-mammalian transfer factor may have specificity for one or more antigens. A method of using the non-mammalian transfer factor includes administering either antigen-specific non-mammalian transfer factor or antigen non-specific non-mammalian transfer factor to mammals to treat or prevent pathogenic infections in the mammals.

Claims (27)

. An orally administrable composition for eliciting a T cell-mediated immune response by a treated animal, comprising an extract of an egg of a non-mammalian source animal, said extract in a state for administration to the treated animal and including at least one type of non-mammalian transfer factor specific for an antigen of at least one of rubeola virus, mumps virus, rubella virus, Epstein-Ban virus and hepatitis B virus, for transferring cellular immunity to the treated animal in vivo, present in a concentration greater than said non-mammalian transfer factor was present in said egg, and being generated by way of a T cell-mediated immune response of said non-mammalian source animal to at least one antigenic agent.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 1 , wherein said at least one type of non-mammalian transfer factor includes transfer factor molecules having molecular weights of about 4,000 Da to about 5,000 Da.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 1 , wherein said non-mammalian transfer factor comprises avian transfer factor.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 3 , wherein said avian transfer factor comprises chicken transfer factor.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 1 , wherein said non-mammalian transfer factor comprises at least one of amphibian transfer factor, reptilian transfer factor, and fish transfer factor.

. (canceled)

. (canceled)

. The orally administrable composition of claim 1 , wherein said at least one type of non-mammalian transfer factor transfers to the treated animal, in vivo, cellular immunity against at least a pathogen exhibiting said at least one antigenic agent.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 1 , wherein said at least one type of non-mammalian transfer factor causes the treated animal to initiate a T cell-mediated immune response to at least one pathogen within about 48 hours of administration of the composition to the treated animal.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 9 , wherein said at least one type of non-mammalian transfer factor causes the treated animal to initiate a T cell-mediated immune response to at least a pathogen exhibiting said at least one antigenic agent within about 48 hours of administration of the composition to the treated animal.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 1 , wherein the treated animal comprises a mammal.

. An orally administrable composition, comprising:

a carrier; and

an egg extract from an egg of a non-mammalian source animal, said egg extract including:

non-mammalian transfer factor for transferring cellular immunity against a specific antigenic agent of a vaccine to a treated mammal in vivo, said non-mammalian source animal having borne the egg from which said egg extract was obtained, a concentration of said non-mammalian transfer factor in the composition being greater than a concentration of said non-mammalian transfer factor in the egg.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said non-mammalian transfer factor causes said treated animal to elicit a T cell immune response.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said non-mammalian transfer factor transfers to said treated mammal cellular immunity against a mammalian pathogen exhibiting said at least one antigenic agent.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said non-mammalian transfer factor transfers to said treated mammal cellular immunity against at least one of rubeola virus, mumps virus, rubella virus, hepatitis B virus, and H. pylori.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said mammalian-specific pathogen against which said non-mammalian transfer factor is generated comprises at least one antigen of at least one of rubeola virus, mumps virus, rubella virus, Epstein-Ban Virus, hepatitis B virus, and H. pylori.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said non-mammalian transfer factor comprises avian transfer factor.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 17 , wherein said non-mammalian transfer factor comprises chicken transfer factor.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said non-mammalian transfer factor comprises non-avian transfer factor.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said egg extract includes transfer factor molecules having molecular weights of about 4,000 Da to about 5,000 Da.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said carrier is configured for application to skin of the treated mammal.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said carrier is configured for oral administration to the treated mammal.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said carrier is configured for nasal administration to the treated mammal.

. The orally administrable composition of claim 12 , wherein said carrier is configured for parenteral administration to the treated mammal.
