Abstract

Biomacromolecules such as proteins are inactivated by hydrophobic ANSA derivatives of the formula: wherein R 1 and R 2 are hydrophobic or affinity groups and R 3 is selected from the group consisting of aminoacyl groups and peptidyl groups upon nitrosation. ANSA derivatives can be designed to selectively kill tumor cells and various pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Claims (4)

1. An ANSA compound of the formula

wherein R 1 and R 2 impart hydrophobicity to the molecule and are selected from the group consisting of C 10 -C 16 aryl, C 8 -C 30 alkyl, C 8 -C 30 alkyl halide, C 10 -C 16 alkenyl, and C 10 -C 16 alkenyl halide; and R 3 is glycyl-glycyl-arginyl-arginyl and at least one of R 1 and R 2 is a hydrophobic group.

2. L-arginamide glycylglycyl-L-arginyl-N-{(5-[(pentylamino) sulfonyl]-1-naphthenyl}.

3. A pharmaceutical composition for inactivating proteins comprising an effective amount of a compound according to claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
