Topical formulations comprising ceramic hydroxyapatite particles

1. A composition of matter for application to the skin, said composition comprising:
sintered macroporous hydroxyapatite particles; and
a physiologically and cosmetically acceptable vehicle other than water, wherein said vehicle is formulated for application to the skin.
2. The composition of matter according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is a solid.
3. The composition of matter according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is a powder.
4. The composition of matter according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is a liquid.
5. The composition of matter according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is a cream.
6. The composition of matter according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is a lotion.
7. The composition of matter according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is a gel.
8. The composition of matter according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is a paste.
9. A composition of matter for application to the skin, said composition comprising:
sintered macroporous hydroxyapatite particles; and
a physiologically and cosmetically acceptable vehicle other than water, wherein said vehicle comprises an emollient.
10. The composition of matter according to claim 9 , wherein said composition is a solid.
11. The composition of matter according to claim 9 , wherein said composition is a powder.
12. The composition of matter according to claim 9 , wherein said composition is a liquid.
13. The composition of matter according to claim 9 , wherein said composition is a cream.
14. The composition of matter according to claim 9 , wherein said composition is a lotion.
15. The composition of matter according to claim 9 , wherein said composition is a gel.
16. The composition of matter according to claim 9 , wherein said composition is a paste.
17. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein said sintered macroporous hydroxyapatite particles have a median diameter in the range of 1 to 10 μm.
18. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein said sintered macroporous hydroxyapatite particles are prepared by:
(a) agglomerating crystals; and
(b) sintering said agglomerated crystals.
19. The composition according to claim 18 , wherein said crystals range in size from 50 to 100 nm.
20. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein said sintered macroporous hydroxyapatite particles are spheres.
21. The compositon according to claim 9 , wherein said sintered macroporus hydroyapatite particles have a median diameter in the range of 1 to 10 μm.
22. A composition of matter for application to the skin, said composition comprising:
sintered macroporous hydroxyapatite particles which have been prepared by:
(a) agglomerating hydroxyapatite crystals that range in size from 50 to 100 nm; and
(b) sintering said agglomerated crystals; and
a physiologically and cosmetically acceptable vehicle other than water, wherein said vehicle comprises an emollient.
23. The composition according to claim 22 , wherein said sintered macroporous hydroxyapatite particles are spheres.
24. The composition according to claim 23 , wherein said sintered macroporous hydroxyapatite particles have a median diameter in the range of 1 to 10 μm.
