ANKTM1, a cold-activated TRP-like channel expressed in nociceptive neurons
View Patent ↗The methods and compositions of the invention are based on a method for measuring nociceptive responses in vertebrates, including humans and other mammals utilizing a newly discovered thermoreceptor belonging to the Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) family of non-selective cation channels that participates in thermosensation and pain. This receptor, designated ANKTMI, is associated with nociceptive pain, such as hyperalgesia. Accordingly, the invention provides isolated polypeptides and polynucleotides associated with nociception as well as methods for identifying or screening agents that modulate nociception.
1. An isolated nucleic acid encoding an ANKTM1-related polypeptide consisting of the amino acid sequence as set forth in SEQ ID NO: 2.
2. An expression vector comprising the nucleic acid of claim 1 .
3. The vector of claim 2 , wherein the vector is a plasmid.
4. The vector of claim 2 , wherein the vector is a virus.
5. An isolated host cell stably transformed with the vector of claim 2 .
6. The host cell of claim 5 , wherein the cell is prokaryotic.
7. The host cell of claim 5 , wherein the cell is eukaryotic.
