Abstract

The invention relates to a method for preparing a lithium and vanadium oxide and the thus obtained products. The method comprises preparing a precursor gel by reacting hydrogen peroxide with α-V 2 O 5 in an aqueous medium in the presence of a lithium precursor and exposing the gel to a heat treatment in an oxidant atmosphere at a temperature ranging from 260° C. to 580° C. A compound of a formula Li 1+x V 3 O 8 , (0.1<x<0.25) comprises needle-shaped grains having a bimodal distibution, wherein the length (L) of the first distribution needles ranges from 10 to 50 μm and the length (L) of the second distribution needles ranges from 1 to 10 μm.

Claims (12)

1. A method for preparing an Li 1+x V 3 O 8 compound, where 0.1<x<0.25, comprising preparing a precursor gel by reacting hydrogen peroxide with α-V 2 O 5 in aqueous medium, in the presence of a lithium precursor, and subjecting said gel to a heat treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature of between 260° C. and 580° C.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the lithium precursor is selected from the group consisting of LiOH.H 2 O, LiCl, LiNO 3 and a lithium salt of a carboxylic acid.

3. The method as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the lithium carboxylic acid salt is selected from the group consisting of lithium acetylacetonate, lithium acetate, lithium stearate, lithium formate and lithium oxalate.

4. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the lithium precursor is introduced in powder form into the reaction medium.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the lithium precursor is introduced into the aqueous medium at the same time as the α-V 2 O 5 .

6. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the lithium precursor is introduced into the aqueous medium after the addition of α-V 2 O 5 , before the precursor gel has finished gelling.

7. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the duration of the heat treatment is between 10 minutes and 10 hours.

8. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the respective Li precursor and α-V 2 O 5 quantities in the reaction medium are such that:

0.16 mol/l <[Li] <0.55 mol/l;

0.22 mol/l <[V 2 O 5 ] <0.75 mol/l; and

1.15 <[V 2 O 5 ]/[Li] <1.5.

9. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the hydrogen peroxide concentration in the reaction medium is between 10% and 50% by volume.
