Abstract

The invention relates to a rim and to a method for its production, in particular for bicycles, using a machining device for the working a welding burr of the rim. The machining device comprises a machining means working the outer contour of the rim and a another machining means working the inner contour of the rim, that has an outer diameter being less than the width of the rim well. The main steps of the method include movement of the first means along the outer contour of the rim to work the welding burr on the outer contour and movement of the second means along the inner contour of the rim to work the welding burr on the inner contour. During machining the inner contour the rim is pivoted around an axis by a predefined angular range.

Claims (23)

1. A method for the production of a rim, particularly for a bicycle, using a machining device for working a welding burr of the rim;

wherein the machining device comprises a first machining means that works an outer contour of the rim, and wherein the machining device comprises a second machining means that works an inner contour of the rim and that has an outer diameter that is less than the width of a rim well;

the method comprising the following steps:

i) moving the first machining means in a plane of a contact surface of the rim along the outer contour in order to work the outer contour;

ii) moving the second machining means essentially in the plane of the contact surface of the rim along the inner contour in order to work the inner contour, the rim being pivoted around an axis by a predefined angular range.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first machining means for working the outer contour has a working diameter area that is radially enlarged in such a way that essentially the entire outer contour of the rim can be worked without a need for repositioning.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the angular range around which the pivoting takes place is smaller than 5°.

4. The method according to claim 2 , wherein a disk milling cutter is used as the first machining means.

5. The method according to claim 2 , wherein an end milling cutter is used as the second machining means.

6. The method according to claim 2 , wherein near a working head, the second machining means has an area with a smaller diameter than said outer diameter.

7. The method according to claim 2 , wherein at least one machining means comprises at least one cutting means that is selected from a group of cutting means comprising carbide cutting plates and diamond plates.

8. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the process steps i) and ii) are at least partially carried out generally simultaneously.

9. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the process steps i) and ii) are carried out generally consecutively.

10. The method according to claim 1 wherein the angular range around which the pivoting takes place is smaller than 5°.

11. The method according to claim 10 , wherein the process steps i) and ii) are at least partially carried out generally simultaneously.

12. The method according to claim 10 , wherein the process steps i) and ii) are carried out generally consecutively.

13. The method according to claim 1 , wherein a disk milling cutter is used as the first machining means.

14. The method according to claim 1 , wherein an end milling cutter is used as the second machining means.

15. The method according to claim 1 , wherein near a working head, the second machining means has an area with a smaller diameter than said outer diameter.

16. The method according to claim 15 , wherein the process steps i) and ii) are at least partially carried out generally simultaneously.

17. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one machining means comprises at least one cutting means that is selected from a group of cutting means comprising carbide cutting plates and diamond plates.

18. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the process steps i) and ii) are at least partially carried out generally simultaneously.

19. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the process steps i) and ii) are carried out generally consecutively.
