Abstract

A digital signal recording/reproducing apparatus having a mode for recording a compressed input signal on a recording medium and a mode for recording a non-compressed input signal on the recording medium. The apparatus include input circuits which input a digital compressed signal and an analog non-compressed signal, an A/D converter, a data compressor, a mode change-over circuit which changes-over the mode, and a selector which selects either a digital compressed signal from the data compressor or a digital compressed signal from the input circuit. A recorder records a recording signal to a recording medium and a reproducer.

Claims (18)

1. A digital signal recording/reproducing apparatus having a mode for recording a compressed input signal on a recording medium and a mode for recording a non-compressed input signal on the recording medium, comprising:

a first input circuit which inputs a digital compressed signal;

a second input circuit which inputs an analog non-compressed signal;

an A/D converter which converts the analog non-compressed signal inputted to the second input circuit to a digital non-compressed signal;

a data compressor which data compresses the digital non-compressed signal from the A/D converter;

a mode change-over circuit which changes-over the mode;

a selector which selects either the digital compressed signal from the data compressor or the digital compressed signal from said first input circuit;

an adder of error correction code which adds an error correction code to the digital compressed signal selected by the selector;

a recording signal processor which performs a predetermined signal processing for the digital compressed signal from the adder of error correction code so as to provide a recording signal;

a recorder which records the recording signal from the recording signal processor on a recording medium;

a reproducer which reproduces a signal recorded on the recording medium;

a reproduced signal processor which performs a predetermined signal processing on the reproduced signal form the reproducer;

an error corrector which corrects an error occurred during processing of the reproduced signal, by using said error correction code contained in the digital compressed signal from the reproduced signal processor;

a first output circuit which outputs the digital compressed signal with no further expansion and/or compression processing from the error corrector;

a data expander which data expands the digital compressed signal from the error corrector;

a D/A converter which converts the digital non-compressed signal from the data expander to an analog non-compressed signal; and

a second output circuit which outputs the analog non-compressed signal from the D/A converter.

2. A digital signal recording/reproducing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the data compressor performs data compression by using a discrete cosine conversion, and the data expander performs data expansion by using discrete cosine reverse-conversion.
