Abstract

A pod unit including a pod housing ( 1 ) and an assembly unit ( 6 ), a so called seating, for the pod housing ( 1 ), wherein the seating ( 6 ) has a lower portion ( 6 A) and an upper portion ( 6 F) as well as a base ( 15 ) for the installation of the pod housing ( 1 ) which comprises a lower casing portion ( 1 A) for the accommodation of a propulsion unit ( 2, 3, 4 ), an intermediate portion ( 1 B) comprising air ducts ( 9, 10 ), and an upper portion ( 13 ), which is fixedly connected to a steering engine ( 14, 18, 19 ), with a gear ring ( 14 ) to be fixed at the base ( 15 ). A cooling system having at least one fan ( 7 ) is mounted within the seating.

Claims (6)

1. An assembly unit for a pod housing to rotateably install the pod housing to the hull of a ship, the assembly unit comprising a lower wall and an upper wall which are connected to each other by means of side outer walls, to form a box like assembly unit, wherein said box like assembly unit is arranged to be fixedly attached to the hull of a ship, to form a seating, a base fixedly attached within the space delimited by said box like assembly unit, said pod housing being rotateably arranged by means of a bearing unit that is attached on to said base, and wherein a cooling system comprising at least a fan is mounted within said box like assembly unit, within a space between the base and the outer walls of said box like assembly unit.

2. An assembly unit according to claim 1 , wherein at least one cooling unit is installed within said space.

3. An assembly unit according to claim 1 , wherein a drum is positioned inside the seating, which forms an inner delimitation of said space, which drum is arranged with an inlet opening and an outlet opening, respectively, for cooling air.

4. An assembly unit according to claim 3 , wherein said drum is positioned coaxially to said base.

5. An assembly unit according to claim 4 , wherein stays with holes are provided between said drum and said side walls, said stays transmitting cargo and also enabling transport of air.

6. A pod unit according to claim 1 , wherein said base is provided nearer the lower wall of the seating than the upper wall of the seating.
