Abstract

A housing assembly for a printed circuit board is mounted on a vehicle body by pressing a collar nut or the head of a collar screw past a plurality of fingers of a housing assembly so that the fingers retain the nut or screw head in place. The module is then pressed against the vehicle body so that the collar nut or collar screw is lifted while the retainers are deflected outwardly and a tool is used to tighten the screw into a nut or the nut onto the shank of a screw to clamp the printed circuit board on the housing against the vehicle body.

Claims (21)

1. A housing assembly comprising:

a first housing member and a second housing member juxtaposed with said first housing member;

a printed-circuit board received between the first and second housing members and forming a module therewith;

a screw element having a collar and engageable through a wall of said first housing member and adapted to be engaged by a mating screw element for mounting said module on a support by rotation of the screw element having said collar; and

a plurality of retainers elastically connected to said wall, bent toward said second housing member and engaging over said collar for retaining said screw element having said collar on said module.

2. The housing assembly defined in claim 1 wherein said housing members are composed of a plastic, said retainers are formed integrally with said wall.

3. The housing assembly defined in claim 2 wherein at least three of said retainers are provided in angularly equispaced relationship around said screw element having said collar.

4. The housing assembly defined in claim 3 wherein between said retainers said first housing member is formed with concave wall segments extending inwardly of the module toward said printed circuit board.

5. The housing assembly defined in claim 4 wherein slits are provided between said retainers and said wall segments or the wall of said first member, thereby separating said retainers from said wall.

6. The housing assembly defined in claim 5 wherein said wall segments define a generally circular space into which said retainers project as resilient fingers and in which said screw element having said collar is received and can be tightened against said printed circuit board.

7. The housing assembly defined in claim 6 wherein each of said retainers has an S-shaped region of wavy configuration connecting each of said fingers with said wall.

8. The housing assembly defined in claim 1 wherein said members are connected by a film hinge.

9. The housing assembly defined in claim 1 wherein said retainers each have at least one zone of reduced thickness.

10. The housing assembly defined in claim 1 wherein said screw element having said collar is a collar nut.

11. A housing assembly comprising:

a first plastic housing member having a wall;

a second plastic housing member juxtaposed with the first housing member;

a printed-circuit board between the first and second housing members and forming a module therewith;

a first screw element having a collar and engageable through the wall of the first housing member;

a second screw element mating with the first screw element for mounting the module on a support by rotation of the first screw element; and

a plurality of retainers integrally formed with and elastically connected to the wall, bent toward the second housing member and engaging over the collar for retaining the first screw element having the collar on the module.
