Apparatus and method to provide a local oscillator signal
View Patent ↗An apparatus provides a local oscillator signal based on a selected channel of an RF input signal. For example, the apparatus can set a frequency of the local oscillator signal based on the selected channel. Digital circuitry can be used to generate the local oscillator signal. For instance, the digital circuitry can provide a digital representation of the local oscillator signal. A DAC can convert the digital representation to an analog signal. Other circuitry can provide first and second quadrature components of the local oscillator signal, based on the analog signal.
1. An apparatus, comprising:
a local oscillator circuit to provide a digital representation of a local oscillator signal;
a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to convert the digital representation to an analog signal; and
a circuit to provide first and second quadrature components of the local oscillator signal, based on the analog signal;
wherein the circuit includes a phase locked loop (PLL) to generate the local oscillator signal based on the analog signal.
2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the circuit further includes:
an oscillator to provide the first and second quadrature components of the local oscillator signal.
3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the PLL increases a frequency of the first and second quadrature components by a factor.
4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the local oscillator circuit generates first and second quadrature components of the digital representation.
5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the local oscillator circuit is a direct digital frequency synthesizer.
6. A method, comprising:
generating a digital representation of a local oscillator signal;
converting the digital representation to an analog signal;
filtering the analog signal using a phase locked loop; and
providing first and second quadrature components of the local oscillator signal, based on the analog signal.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein generating the digital representation of the local oscillator signal includes generating first and second quadrature components of the digital representation.
8. The method of claim 6 , wherein generating the digital representation of the local oscillator signal includes generating the digital representation of the local oscillator signal using a direct digital frequency synthesizer.
9. The method of claim 6 , wherein generating the digital representation of the local oscillator signal includes generating a digital representation of the first quadrature component of the local oscillator signal and a digital representation of the second quadrature component of the local oscillator signal.
