Abstract

A data acquisition system and method includes monitoring a cooling system having a refrigerant compressor, evaporator, and condenser, and employs a number of sensors to monitor various operating parameters of the system. A database stores predefined operating parameters for a plurality of cooling systems. The operating parameters are provided to a computer, which compares the provided operating parameters of the monitored cooling system with the predefined operating parameters to provide diagnostic results for the monitored cooling system.

Claims (45)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a first sensor for sensing a first cooling system operating parameter;

a second sensor for sensing a second cooling system operating parameter;

a third sensor for sensing a motor operating parameter; and

a computer including data sets of normal operating parameters for a plurality of cooling systems stored in a memory and receiving system configuration information data for an individual cooling system, said computer selecting one of said data sets of normal operating parameters based on said received system configuration information data and comparing said first cooling system operating parameter, second cooling system operating parameter, and motor operating parameters with said selected normal operating parameters to diagnose a cooling system.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said first cooling system parameter is a low side pressure measurement, said second cooling system parameter is a high side pressure measurement, and said motor operating parameter is a supply voltage to a compressor.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said first cooling system parameter is a low side pressure measurement and said second cooling system parameter is a high side pressure measurement.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a master computer disposed remote from said computer; and

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said computer provides instructions for repairing a cooling system.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a barcode reader in communication with said computer.

8. A data acquisition system for monitoring a cooling system, said data acquisition system comprising:

a computer having a memory containing a plurality of data sets of normal operating parameters for a plurality of cooling systems and an input for receiving system configuration information and an input for receiving monitored operating parameters;

a first sensor adapted to sense a first cooling system operating parameter;

a second sensor adapted to sense a second cooling system operating parameter; and

a third sensor adapted to sense a motor operating parameter;

wherein said monitored operating parameters include said first cooling system operating parameter, said second cooling system operating parameter, and said motor operating parameter, said computer being operable to diagnose a cooling system based on a comparison of said monitored operating parameters to one data set of said normal operating parameters.

9. The data acquisition system in accordance with claim 8 , wherein said monitored operating parameter includes said motor operating parameter and at least one of said first cooling system operating parameter and said second cooling system operating parameter.

10. The data acquisition system in accordance with claim 9 , wherein said first cooling system operating parameter is a low side pressure measurement, said second cooling system operating parameter is a high side pressure measurement, and said motor operating parameter is a supply voltage to a compressor.
