System, method, and computer program product for a unified internet wallet and gift registry

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by an intercept server, a request from an external client for a product web page associated with a product, wherein the requested product web page is provided by an independent vendor server;

retrieving the requested product web page from the independent vendor server by the intercept server, the retrieved product web page including an order form;

creating by the intercept server a modified product web page configured with a purchase command function associated with the product;

presenting the modified product web page from the intercept server to the external client;

automatically providing at the intercept server information required for the order form; and

in response to receipt by the intercept server of a purchase command for the product from the external client, transmitting, from the intercept server to the independent vendor server, a modified purchase command configured to initiate a purchase transaction of the product at the independent vendor server, wherein the modified purchase command includes the information required by the order form.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said creating a modified product web page further comprises creating a toolbar associated with the purchase command function.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising comparing the requested product web page to a database to identify the product web page.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

retrieving a communication format from the database; and

sending the modified purchase command to the independent vendor server in a format corresponding to the communication format.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the intercept server comprises a web proxy.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

collecting information specific to a user; and

storing the information specific to the user,

wherein said automatically providing information required for the order form further comprises:

automatically providing the information required for the order form from the stored information specific to the user.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the information required for the order form comprises a name associated with the user.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the information required for the order foam comprises an address associated with the user.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the information required for the order form comprises a phone number associated with the user.

10. The method of claim 6 , wherein the information required for the order form comprises credit card information associated with the user.

11. The method of claim 6 , further comprising selecting an advertisement specifically targeted to the user, and wherein said creating a modified product web page includes presenting the advertisement in the modified product web page.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the intercept server and the independent vendor server are deployed as separate physical devices.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein said receiving the request for the product web page by the intercept server comprises intercepting the request for the product web page from the external client.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the intercept server is configured to relay web page requests received from the external client.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the intercept server is configured as a proxy server for the external client.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein creating the modified product web page comprises adding the purchase command function to the modified product web page, the added purchase command function not originally included in the product web page retrieved from the independent vendor server.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein said retrieving the requested product web page from the independent vendor server comprises retrieving the requested product web page from the independent vendor server via the Internet.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein said transmitting the modified purchase command from the intercept server to the independent vendor server comprises transmitting the modified purchase order from the intercept server to the independent vendor server via the Internet.

19. The method of claim 1 , wherein said retrieving the requested product web page from the independent vendor server comprises retrieving the requested product web page from the independent vendor server via an intranet.

20. The method of claim 1 , wherein said transmitting the modified purchase command from the intercept server to the independent vendor server comprises transmitting the modified purchase order from the intercept server to the independent vendor server via an intranet.

21. An intercept server comprising:

at least one processor configured to:

receive, from an external client, a request for a product web page associated with a product, wherein the product web page is provided by an independent vendor server;

retrieve the requested product web page from the independent vendor server to the intercept server, the retrieved product web page including an order form;

create a modified product web page configured with a purchase command function associated with the product;

present the modified product web page to the external client;

automatically provide information required for the order form at the intercept server; and

in response to receipt of a purchase command for the product from the external client, transmit, from the intercept server to the independent vendor server, a modified purchase command configured to initiate a purchase transaction of the product at the independent vendor server, wherein the modified purchase command includes the information required by the order form.

22. The intercept server of claim 21 , wherein the modified product web page further comprises a toolbar associated with the purchase command function.

23. The intercept server of claim 21 , wherein the at least one processor further is configured to compare the requested product web page to a database to identify the product web page.

24. The intercept server of claim 21 , wherein the intercept server further is configured to:

collect information specific to a user; and

store the information specific to the user,

wherein said intercept server is further configured to automatically provide the information required for the order form from the stored information specific to the user.

25. The intercept server of claim 24 , wherein the information required for the order form comprises credit card information associated with the user.

26. The intercept server of claim 24 , wherein the at least one processor further is configured to select an advertisement specifically targeted to the user, and to present the advertisement in the modified product web page.

27. An article of manufacture including a computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions, execution of which by a computing device causes the computing device to perform operations comprising:

receiving a request from an external client for a product web page associated with a product, wherein the requested product web page is provided by an independent vendor server;

retrieving the requested product web page from the independent vendor server, the retrieved product web page including an order form;

creating a modified product web page configured with a purchase command function associated with the product;

presenting the modified product web page to the external client;

automatically providing information required for the order form; and

in response to receipt of a purchase command for the product from the external client, transmitting to the independent vendor server a modified purchase command configured to initiate a purchase transaction of the product at the independent vendor server, wherein the modified purchase command includes the information required by the order form.

28. The article of manufacture of claim 27 , wherein the operation of creating a modified product web page further comprises creating a toolbar associated with the purchase command function.

29. The article of manufacture of claim 27 , wherein the operations further comprise comparing the requested product web page to a database to identify the product web page.

30. The article of manufacture of claim 27 , wherein the operations further comprise selecting an advertisement specifically targeted to a user, and wherein the operation of creating a modified product web page includes presenting the advertisement in the modified product web page.

31. The article of manufacture of claim 27 , wherein the operations further comprise:

collecting information specific to a user; and

storing the information specific to the user,

wherein the operation of automatically providing information required for the order form further comprises:

automatically providing the information required for the order form from the stored information specific to the user.

32. The article of manufacture of claim 31 , wherein the information required for the order form comprises credit card information associated with the user.

33. An intercept server comprising:

a computing device comprising:

a processing module; and

a memory module for storing instructions that cause the processing module to perform operations comprising:

receiving a request from an external client for a product web page associated with a product, wherein the requested product web page is provided by an independent vendor server;

retrieving the product web page from the independent vendor server to the intercept server, the retrieved product web page including an order form;

creating at the intercept server a modified product web page configured with a purchase command function associated with the product;

presenting the modified product web page to the external client;

automatically providing at the intercept server information required for the order foam; and

in response to receipt by the intercept server of a purchase command for the product from the external client, transmitting, from the intercept server to the independent vendor server, a modified purchase command configured to initiate a purchase transaction of the product at the independent vendor server, wherein the modified purchase command includes the information required by the order form.

34. An intercept server comprising:

means for receiving from an external client a request for a product web page associated with a product, wherein the requested product web page is provided by an independent vendor server;

means for retrieving the requested product web page from the independent vendor server to the intercept server, the retrieved product web page including an order form;

means for creating at the intercept server a modified product web page configured with a purchase command function associated with the product;

means for automatically providing at the intercept server information required for the order form;

means for presenting the modified product web page to an external client; and

means for receiving a purchase command for the product from the external client and, in response to receiving the purchase command, transmitting, from the intercept server to the independent vendor server, a modified purchase command configured to initiate a purchase transaction of the product at the independent vendor server, wherein the modified purchase command includes the information required by the order form.
