Abstract

The present invention is a dispenser adapted to be coupled to a fluid container. The dispenser comprises a dispensing head, an energy source, and a fluid pathway. The dispensing head includes a fluid pump, a motor adapted to power the pump, a trigger adapted to control the motor, and a nozzle orifice in fluid communication with a discharge end of the pump. The fluid pathway has one portion in fluid communication with an intake end of the pump and another portion inside the container.

Claims (11)

1. A sprayer adapted to be coupled to a container to dispense a substance in the container, the sprayer comprising:

a dispensing head enclosing a pump, comprising a piston and a pump cylinder, for pumping the substance, a motor for driving the pump, a battery coupled to the motor and adjacent to the container when the dispensing head is coupled to a container, said dispensing head carrying an actuator for starting and stopping the motor, and a nozzle in fluid communication with a discharge end of the pump, wherein the nozzle comprises a cap, said cap having an inside wall with a generally central discharge opening;

a fluid flow path having a portion in fluid communication with an intake end of the pump and another portion inside the container;

a venting arrangement including a first vent and a second vent associated with the pump cylinder, said first vent adapted to allow air into the cylinder and said second vent in fluid communication with the container, generally opposite to the first vent, and adapted to allow air and excess fluid into the container; and

a stop element adjacent to the flow path, the stop element operably coupled to the actuator and configured to prevent fluid flow through the pump and nozzle when the motor is stopped.

2. The sprayer according to claim 1 , wherein stop element comprises the actuator, an opposing element and a spring, the actuator comprising a trigger that toggles between an actuated position and a non-actuated position, the trigger comprising an actuation portion, a stop portion and a pivot element, wherein the sprayer further comprises a tube forming at least part of said fluid flow path, the opposing element positioned adjacent to the tube generally opposite the stop portion of the trigger, and the spring positioned to urge the actuation portion in a direction opposite the direction that the actuation portion moves during actuation by a user.

3. The sprayer according to claim 1 , wherein the stop element comprises a valve mechanism operably coupled to the actuator.

4. The sprayer according to claim 3 , wherein the valve mechanism comprises a valve body and valve element, the actuator operably coupled to the valve element.

5. The sprayer according to claim 4 , wherein the valve element has an opening along its length and is moveable in the valve body between an flow position and a stop position.

6. The sprayer according to claim 5 , wherein, in the flow position, the opening of the valve element is positioned in fluid communication with a tube forming at least part of said fluid flow path such that fluid can pass through the tube and the opening, and wherein, in the stop position, the opening is position such that it is not in fluid communication with the tube, thereby preventing fluid from flowing through the tube.

7. The sprayer according to claim 1 , wherein the stop element comprises a stop operating element separate from the actuator.
