Method of loading cartons
Substantially tubular, or sleeve-type, cartons each with an end opening having a width less than a pitch of flight bars of a packaging machine but having a combined end opening equal to the pitch of the packaging machine are erected and placed between the flight bars. In one embodiment, the cartons are detachably affixed to one another. In another embodiment, the cartons are detachably affixed to one another in collapsed condition such that the composite collapsed carton formed thereby has dimensions substantially similar to a single carton loadable on the machine.

7 . A composite carton for use in a packaging machine comprising flight bars having a pitch, comprising:
a first carton comprising an open end having a first width;
a second carton comprising an open end having a second width,
wherein the first carton and the second carton are detachably affixed to one another, so that the combined width of the first width of the open end of the first carton and second width of the open end of the second carton is equal to the pitch of flight bars.
8 . The composite carton of claim 7 , wherein the first width of the open end of the first carton is equal to second width of the open end of the second carton.
9 . The composite carton of claim 8 , wherein the first width of the open end of the first carton and the second width of the open end of the second carton are equal to one half the pitch of the flight bars.
10 . The composite carton of claim 7 , wherein the first width of the open end of the first carton is different from the second width of the open end of the second.
11 . The composite carton of claim 7 , wherein the first carton and the second carton are detachably affixed using an adhesive.
12 . The composite carton of claim 10 , wherein first carton remains detachably affixed to the second carton when the composite carton is in a collapsed condition.
13 . The composite carton of claim 12 , wherein the composite carton is be handled as a single carton by a packaging machine.
14 . The composite carton of claim 7 , wherein the first carton and the second carton are sleeve-type cartons.
15 . A composite carton for use in a packaging machine comprising flight bars having a pitch, comprising:
a plurality of detachably affixed cartons, wherein each carton comprises:
a plurality of sidewalls joined together to form a generally tubular shape;
at least one open end having a width less than the pitch of the flight bars,
wherein the combined widths of the open ends of the plurality of detachably affixed cartons equals the pitch of the flight bars of the packaging machine.
16 . The composite carton of claim 15 , wherein at least one side wall of each carton is detachably affixed to at least one side wall every other carton.
17 . The composite carton of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of cartons are detachably affixed with adhesive.
18 . The composite carton of claim 15 , wherein width of the open ends of the plurality of detachably affixed cartons are the same size.
19 . The composite carton of claim 10 , wherein plurality of cartons remains detachable affixed to one another when the composite carton is in a collapsed condition.
20 . The composite carton of claim 19 , wherein the composite carton is be handled as a single carton by a packaging machine.
