Apparatus and method for reducing and removing airborne oxidized particulates
A method for treating air flow containing particulates and oxidized compounds of carbon, sulfur, iron, and other elements. The method includes supplying an air flow to a reaction zone formed between an electrically insulated electrode node having a plurality of point source electrodes and a grounded receptor. A continuous film of electrically grounded water is supplied on the receptor. The water is filtered after traveling over the receptor and collecting elemental materials formed in the reaction zones.
1. A method for treating particulates and oxidized compounds of carbon, sulfur, iron contained in an air flow, the steps comprising:
supplying the air flow to a reaction zone formed between a plurality of spaced apart point source electrodes and a receptor, the receptor having a top edge and being connected to ground, the plurality of point source electrodes and the receptor being electrically insulated from each other;
applying a voltage to the point source electrodes;
generating atomic hydrogen adjacent to the point source electrodes;
accelerating air flow between the plurality of point source electrodes and receptor, increasing collisions between atomic hydrogen and oxidized compounds forming an elemental composition;
supplying a continuous film of electrically grounded water on the surface of the receptor;
collecting the elemental composition in the water; and
directing the air flow out of the reaction zone.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the point source electrodes are needle electrodes.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of point source electrodes are spaced apart in a range of 20 mm to 45 mm.
4. A method for treating emissions and recovering carbon from the emissions for use with a coal-fired plant, the method comprising:
supplying an air flow containing carbon compounds;
treating the air flow by the method of claim 1 ;
filtering the water after traveling over the receptor;
collecting elemental carbon from the water.
5. The method of claim 4 further comprising, adding the collected elemental carbon to a coal fuel.
6. A method for reducing waste volume for use with landfills, the method comprising:
producing an incinerator-generated air flow containing particulates and oxidized compounds;
treating the oxidized compounds by the method of claim 1 ;
filtering the water after the water travels over the surface of the receptor;
collecting the reduced oxidized compounds; and
disposing of the reduced oxidized compounds.
7. A method for producing fullerenes comprising:
supplying an air flow containing oxidized carbon compounds;
treating the air flow by the method of claim 1 ;
collecting the reduced oxides of carbon; and
separated the fullerenes from the collected reduced oxides of carbon.
8. The method of claim 7 in which the oxidized carbon compounds are produced by burning a hydrocarbon fuel or paraffin.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of supplying air flow comprises supplying air flow from an incinerated landfill when reducing a volume of a waste in a landfill.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the elemental composition comprises a fullerene composition.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of supplying air flow comprises supplying an air flow having a composition comprising oxidized carbon when combusting hydrocarbon fuel or paraffin.
