Abstract

A one-piece, screw-receiving, externally-threaded endosseous dental implant includes a body portion with external threading and, at its proximal end, an unthreaded, cylindrical portion including a retentive groove for engaging a complementary transfer component or comfort cap; a one- or two-piece screw-receiving implant abutment for attachment to a one or two-piece implant, including a retentive groove for engaging a complementary transfer component or comfort cap; and a fixture mount for insertion in a one-piece implant, that can be sectioned with the distal end used to extend the implant height.

Claims (11)

1. A one-piece, screw receiving, externally-threaded endosseous dental implant comprises:

a longitudinally extending, tapered or straight body with external threads;

said body including, at its proximal end, an unthreaded cylindrical portion;

proximal to said unthreaded cylindrical portion, an outwardly-extending, unthreaded region that includes a flat, peripheral shoulder at its proximal end, and

proximal to said outwardly-extending unthreaded region, an unthreaded, unbroken frusto-conical portion of a size and shape to function alone as an abutment with an unthreaded, upwardly and inwardly continuously tapering, external surface, and a retentive groove, on the surface of said frusto-conical portion and above the base of the frusto-conical portion, for engaging a transfer component or a comfort cap,

said body including an internal passage extending distally from an opening at the proximal end of said implant,

said internal passage including wrench-engaging surfaces and a threaded region.

2. The implant of claim 1 wherein said internally-threaded passage includes, near the opening to the internal shaft, multi-sided, or multi-lobed wrench-engaging surfaces.

3. The implant of claim 1 wherein said body is tapered.

4. The implant of claim 1 or claim 2 , or claim 3 , wherein said body includes, at its distal end, a self-tapping cutting portion.

5. The implant of claim 1 wherein said body includes external multiple lead threads.
