Printhead module
View Patent ↗The present invention provides a printhead module. The printhead module comprises a body defining a plurality of ink chambers. There is also provided a rib cage comprising a plurality of ribs and for mounting to the body. A gap is defined between each adjacent pair of ribs and a channel is defined transverse to the ribs. The printhead module further comprises a film for covering the rib cage and a printhead integrated circuit for mounting to the film in a location coincident with the channel. In use, ink passes from the ink chambers, along the gaps and into the channel before being fed to the printhead integrated circuit.
1. A printhead module comprising:
a body defining a plurality of ink chambers;
a rib cage comprising a plurality of ribs and for mounting to the body, a gap being defined between each adjacent pair of ribs and a channel being defined transverse to the ribs;
a film for covering the rib cage; and
a printhead integrated circuit for mounting to the film in a location coincident with the channel;
wherein, in use, ink passes from the ink chambers, along the gaps and into the channel before being fed to the printhead integrated circuit.
2. A printhead module according to claim 1 , wherein the body comprises flexible arms for snap fitting the printhead module to an elongate ink reservoir.
3. A printhead module according to claim 1 , wherein printhead integrated circuit is mounted to the film using an adhesive.
4. A printhead module according to claim 3 , wherein the film further comprises electrical conductors which are electrically coupled to the printhead integrated circuit, the electrical conductors being for carrying control signals to control the printhead integrated circuit.
5. A printhead module according to claim 1 , wherein each chamber has an inlet which is shaped so as to mate with a corresponding raised portion of an elongate ink reservoir.
6. A printhead module according to claim 5 , wherein each inlet comprises a funnel for funneling ink from the ink reservoir into the chamber.
7. A printhead comprising a plurality of printhead modules of claim 1 arranged along and in fluid communication with an elongate ink reservoir.
