Isolated eIF-5A and polynucleotides encoding same
The present invention relates to unique isoforms of eukaryotic initiation Factor 5A (“eIF-5A”): senescence-induced eIF-5A; wounding-induced eIF-5A; and growth eIF-5A, as well as polynucleotides that encode these three factors. The present invention also relates to methods involving modulating the expression of these factors. The present invention also relates to deoxyhypusine synthase (“DHS”), polynucleotides that encode DHS, and methods involving modulating the expression of DHS.

26 . An isolated plant elF-5A comprising the amino acid motif of C-K-V-V-E-V-S-T-S-K-T-G-K-H-G-H-A-K-C-H-F-V, and wherein the isolated elF-5A exhibits elF-5A activity and is capable of being hypusinated by deoxyhypusine synthase.
27 . An isolated polynucleotide encoding the isolated elF-5A of claim 26 .
28 . An isolated plant elF-5A comprising the amino acid motif of C-K-V-V-E-V-S-T-S-K-T-G-X 1 -H-G-H-A-K-C-H-F-V, wherein X, is not K such that the elF-5A can not be hypusinated by deoxyhypusine synthase and wherein the isolated elF-5A fails to exhibits elF-5A activity.
